Eligibility Criteria

You must meet the following criteria to apply for the WFP Construction Engineer:

  • Education: Applicants must have a postgraduate in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering
  • Experience: At least one or more years of postgraduate professional experience in civil engineering.
  • Desirable Work Experience: Previous experience with construction procurement and contract management.
  • Knowledge & Skills: Advanced knowledge of FIDIC contract formats, good communication and leadership skills, knowledge or experience in engineering design, advanced understanding of public procurement procedures, and experience working within the Humanitarian Community and in field conditions.
  • Languages: Fluency (level C) in English, plus Pashto or Dari, preferably both

Key Accountabilities

Under the supervision of the Head of Engineering, the Engineer will be responsible for various engineering activities and projects in support of WFP’s Country Operations (CO). The key responsibilities include the following:

  • Employees must conduct designer risk assessments and constructability reviews for proposed designs.
  • Draft standard, specific, and detailed specifications as required.
  • Develop project budgets and cost estimations for implementing civil, structural, electrical, mechanical, or special systems.
  • Assist in the preparation of construction contract documentation.
  • Review existing infrastructure drawings and provide comments and recommendations.
  • Support field engineers, including missions to the field for project support, including emergencies.
  • Attend meetings, preparing and reviewing reports, minutes, and correspondence.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders as directed.
  • Undertake administrative tasks and provide project management services as required.
  • Supervise construction and prepare site reports for security, country office, and logistics projects.
  • Operate computer-assisted engineering software and equipment for engineering tasks.
