Opportunity Description

The Save Our Seas Foundation Ocean Storytelling Photography Grant 2021 is now accepting applications. These funds are dedicated to finding and supporting a new and diverse generation of conservation storytellers, and they expand on the Foundation’s earlier Marine Conservation Photography Grants. While they are looking for photographers who can tell stories about ocean conservation, the call is not limited to underwater photography. Applicants should consider a wide range of topics, including the animals themselves, fisheries, and communities whose lives are entwined with marine life. Four successful grantees will be given a fully paid assignment to shoot a conservation photo story on site (including day rate and travel), with the Ocean Storytelling Grant team as their direct mentors.

Deadline: November 30, 2021
Organized by: Save Our Seas Foundation

Winners & Prizes/Grants:
  • For each grant, four recipients will be chosen.
  • Each winner will receive a cash reward of US$2,000 as well as a paid three-week photography assignment documenting an SOSF-supported marine research or conservation initiative.
  • All of the winners will have the opportunity to present their work at an international conference or exhibition.
  • Save Our Seas Foundation will also publish each winner’s story as a photo essay.
Who is eligible for Ocean Storytelling Photography Grant?
  • Early-career and emerging storytellers are eligible to apply.
  • Applicants must have a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in photography or a similar field.

  • They notably invite women and individuals from South and Central America, the Caribbean, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and underrepresented areas to apply for this chance in order to actively rectify inequities common throughout the sector.
  • An applicant cannot apply for a new SOSF grant if they already have one.
