Opportunity Description

As a single initiative, WISE is now introducing the next generation of the WISE Prize in 2024 and selecting a group of finalists to compete. WISE will identify organizations taking on upcoming challenges and offer support through mentorship and capacity building.

During the course of a year, the selected finalists for this iteration of the WISE Prize will collaborate to develop solutions that tackle one of the following major challenges in education:

  • Improving the teaching of Arabic language
  • Accelerating foundational literacies
  • Addressing challenges in A.I.

  • Organizations put forth a plan to deal with one of the three issues facing education.
  • An extensive due diligence procedure is followed on a shortlist of applicants.
  • A panel of outside specialists in education selects four to six finalists.
  • Over the course of a year, finalists create an educational solution.
  • A $100k–$150k USD financial contribution was made to help with the solution’s development.
  • Access to specialized mentoring to promote the creation of solutions.
  • Team members’ access to capacity-building.
  • WISE’s progress tracking and assistance.
  • A $1 million USD Prize* will be given out at the WISE Summit in 2025.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • All legally recognized organizations, such as academic networks, colleges, universities, civil society, community organizations, governments, international agencies, private sector businesses, and non-profits involved in education, are welcome to apply.
  • The company should have been running its programs or selling its products for at least a year.
  • Applications are welcome from representatives of all educational sectors, including pre-school, elementary, secondary, tertiary, EdTech, higher education, vocational training, special needs education, informal learning, lifelong learning, and more.
  • Applications must be submitted by a representative involved in the project and must be for original works and projects. Therefore, all applicants must attest that the project was started by them or their organization, and they must release WISE from any liability arising from any third-party action or claim pertaining to the project they submitted.

What Type of Applicants are They are Looking for?

Candidates should provide proof of the revolutionary effects on people, communities, and society that their prior endeavors in education have already produced, including:

  • A solid track record of accomplishment
  • At least two years of operation
  • Multiple funding sources
  • A minimum of one committed full-time team member, or full-time equivalent, to spearhead the development of the solution
  • A detailed plan outlining the goals and evolution of the project in response to the educational challenge it will tackle
  • A scalable solution with cross-regional replication potential

Selection Criteria:

  • Credentials: Candidates’ past performance attests to their capacity to meet the challenge.
  • Innovation: Applicants use an evidence-based strategy that has never been tried or tested before to address the education challenge.
  • Feasibility: Plans include a clear allocation of resources and manpower planning, along with a coherent timeline for the Minimum Viable Product.
  • Scalability: Solutions that are put forth should be able to grow and provide long-term, sustainable funding.
  • Contextualization: The suggested fixes can be applied to various social and geographic contexts
