Opportunity Description

The Humboldt Research Fellowship is a program run by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation to assist scholars with exceptional credentials from throughout the world. You will receive individualized assistance from the Humboldt Foundation as a fellow and have access to a sizable funding pool. The Humboldt Research Fellowship is open to postdocs and seasoned researchers. All nationalities and academic backgrounds are welcome to apply for the Humboldt Academic Fellowship.

For Experienced Researchers:

  • The fellowship has a value of €3,170. Fellowships can be divided into up to three stints over three years, each lasting between six and eighteen months.

Eligibility

  • The Ph.D., C.Sc., or equivalent degree must have been earned by the applicant no more than four years before application.
  • German citizens must have lived and worked abroad regularly for at least five years to qualify.
  • The candidate must have extraordinary mastery of the English language.
  • It is helpful if you speak German well.
  • Before the application deadline, applicants had to have spent at least 12 months outside of Germany in the previous 18 months.

  • Research strategy (up to five pages)
  • A comprehensive list of your articles (a sample list is provided in PDF format here).
  • A list of your top publications (see a sample list in PDF format here).
  • Noteworthy publications
  • Your doctoral diploma, evidence that your Ph.D. was completed, or a guarantee that it will be finished within six months
  • Your German language diploma, if applicable
  • You’ll also need translations or summaries for any significant publications that aren’t available in German or English, as well as an acceptance notification from the publisher or an acknowledgment of receipt.
