Opportunity Description

The Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC) at Fudan University is offering the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship (henceforth referred to as the Scholarship) to applicants interested in Chinese language education and related fields, registered students of the Confucius Institute (Classroom) who are getting ready to apply for the undergraduate program of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (MTCSOL), and students majoring in Chinese Language and Literature.

Deadlines for Applications:

  • The deadline for completing applications for programs starting in September 2024 is May 15, 2024;
  • For programs starting in March 2025, the deadline is October 31, 2024.

Scholarship Types and Qualifications:

1: Scholarship for One-Year StudyProgram

  • September 2024 is the start of the program, and the scholarship will be awarded for a maximum of eleven months. Applicants who have been awarded a similar scholarship within the last three years are, in theory, ineligible.
  • Candidates for Chinese language study programs must have a minimum HSK test score of 210 (Level 3), and an HSKK test score is necessary.

2: Scholarship for One-Semester StudyProgram

  • The scholarship is awarded for a maximum of five months, starting in September 2024 or March 2025, depending on when the program begins. The following requirements must be met:
    • Applicants for the Chinese language and literature program must have a minimum score of 180 on the HSK test (Level 3), and an HSKK test score is required;
    • Applicants who have won a similar scholarship within the last three years are not eligible.

Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must have the following:

  • A non-Chinese citizen
  • Be amicable with China’s people
  • Have no criminal history,
  • Adhere to both the laws and regulations of China and the Host Institution,
  • Be interested in Chinese language education and related fields, and
  • Be between the ages of 16 and 35 on September 1, 2024. For Chinese instructors who are currently employed, the upper age limit may be raised to 45.

Documents Requirement:

  • A scanned copy of the photo page of the passport; applicants under the age of eighteen must submit certified designation documents signed by their Chinese legal guardians;
  • A scanned copy of the HSK and HSKK test score reports (within the test’s two-year validity);
  • A letter of recommendation from the director of the institutions that are recommending the applicant (evaluate the applicant objectively and indicate whether the applicant is a Confucius Institute student or represents another identity); In-service Chinese language teachers are required to submit an employment certificate and an employer reference letter;
  • Applicants may submit their application materials and scholarship certificates to Fudan University via the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship website if they have been awarded the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship Certificate during Chinese Bridge competitions.   • An expert panel will be tasked by CLEC with reviewing the applications. The findings will be made public roughly three months prior to the commencement of classes;
  • In order to proceed with the procedures of studying in China, scholarship holders must verify with the host universities and print their online certificate of scholarship;
  • Register at the host universities by the deadline specified in the Admissions Letter.
