Opportunity Description
The Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition 2024 has been the world’s oldest international writing competition for schoolchildren since its establishment in 1883. Each year, thousands of youth take part, making it a major venue for showcasing student perspectives, honoring achievements, and fostering critical writing abilities.
About Competition:
The theme of the 2024 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) is “One Resilient Common Future: Transforming our Common Wealth,” and it will take place in Samoa in October.
Over half of the Commonwealth’s member states are Small Island Developing States (SIDAs), such as Samoa, which are disproportionately affected by climate change. Communities around the Commonwealth also face a variety of challenges, including peace, security, and economic development. Creating strong, resilient societies is more important than ever.
As more and more global concerns arise, contestants in the Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition 2024 are invited to consider how they have overcome adversity and how culture and society can foster resilience and optimism.

- Which new habit might you adopt to contribute to the development of a more ecologically conscious Commonwealth?
- Write a letter explaining resilience and optimism to a grandmother. Apart from what they can pick up from the older generation, what more can you teach them?
As you assist with beach cleanup, you discover that you can interact with marine life. In reaction to their remarks, what do you say? - In a Commonwealth country that is different from your own, you are studying abroad. Who do you form friendships with in your age group? (Consider the differences and similarities in culture that may unite you).
