Young and aspiring photographers who want to pursue careers in photojournalism are supported by the Ian Parry Photojournalism Grant. They provide funding, coaching, and continuous support to help them promote their work. Crucially, the grantee joins an extended family of individuals who value photography and are passionate about the project. This network of previous grantees is also formed.

The grant was established more than thirty years ago as a memorial to photojournalist Ian Parry, who, at the age of twenty-four, died in 1989 while covering the Romanian revolution for The Sunday Times. Every year, they host a free, worldwide open call and award The Ian Parry Photojournalism Grant aims to highlight up-and-coming photojournalistic talent.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Accepting entries from young photographers who are 24 years of age or younger, as well as those enrolled full-time in photography courses.
  • A portfolio consisting of twelve photos and a detailed proposal outlining the project the winner will carry out with the award are requirements for entry.

Applicants for the Grant should make sure the following details are included in their application:

  • Name, birthdate, permanent residence, phone number, email address, and, if relevant, college, together with the course title and instructor, are all required.
  • A collection of twelve images, either as a picture essay or as separate images.
  • A project description that provides information about the submitted portfolio for this application
  • A concise project proposal outlining the work you would do with the scholarship money.
  • Longer descriptions for every picture in a PDF file.
