ACBAR is accepting applications for the position of Head of Advocacy and Communication. ACBAR is seeking an experienced Chief of Advocacy and Communication to oversee and implement the organization’s advocacy strategy on behalf of its members, as well as to connect with other stakeholders in Afghanistan and overseas. The ACA will be in charge of all advocacy operations, such as research, messaging, publishing, and communications. The following are key ACBAR advocacy priorities:

  • Defending humanitarian space and fostering an enabling climate for non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in Afghanistan with all necessary internal and foreign players.
  • On behalf of NGO members, promote assistance effectiveness and collaboration in humanitarian, development, and peace-building activities.
  • Supporting sector advocacy on issues such as the environment, protection, returnees/IDPs/refugees, disabilities, and any other issue sought by its NGO members.
  • The head of Advocacy and Communication will provide advocacy assistance to senior management and regional managers in the provinces, as well as contribute to donor reporting and ACBAR presence at national and international meetings and conferences.

Applicants must have the following:

  • A master’s degree from a recognized authorized university in journalism, communication studies, political science, development studies, law, or any other related social science.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience, ideally with NGOs or NGO Forums, is required.
  • Knowledge and expertise in advocacy, humanitarian, and development concerns is required; understanding of humanitarian architecture is an asset.
  • Research, report and policy formulation, public speaking, and event management require excellent written and vocal communication abilities in English.
  • Language abilities in Dari/Pashto are desirable.
  • In a complicated and tough workplace, the ability to think strategically, prioritize, and fulfill deadlines is required; cultural sensitivity is required.
  • Show a strong work ethic as well as a high level of flexibility in terms of working hours; the ability to properly organize and manage one’s own time.
  • Capable of working under duress and under challenging security situations.
  • Excellent networking and interpersonal abilities with people from many cultures.
  • The ability to mentor/coach and train junior staff members is advantageous.
  • Experience working in a complicated, volatile workplace is desired, as is a willingness to follow security rules and have limited mobility.
