Opportunity Description
The Government of Korea offers 2024 Global Korea Scholarships (G.K.S.) for international students from different countries to pursue their bachelor’s and associate degrees in South Korea. These fully-funded scholarships cover all study expenses in Korea, including travel, accommodation, and education expenses. In the meantime, the program will improve international education exchange and extend mutual friendship between Korea and participating countries.
Organizing and selection of the G.K.S. program is up to the National Institute for International Education (NIIED). NIIED manages all scholarship works and budgets and invites the Korean Embassy in the designated country or a university to recommend potential candidates.
The primary purpose of this scholarship is to promote international exchanges and mutual friendships between countries by providing international students with opportunities to continue their advanced studies in Korea.

Benefits of the Global Korea Scholarships (G.K.S.)
The scholarship covers all expenses, including the following for selected candidates:
- Full tuition fee: 5 million K.R.W. at the start of each semester
- Flight ticket at the first-time entry and final departure
- Monthly allowance: 900,000 K.R.W. at the beginning of each month
- Settlement allowance: 200,000 K.R.W. once at the time of first-time entry
- Language training: 1.3 million K.R.W. at the start of each quarter
- Health insurance: standard amount set by NIIED at the beginning of each month
- Korean proficiency grant: 100,000 K.R.W. at the beginning of each month
- Funding for degree completion: 100,000 K.R.W. at the time of final departure

Level of Education/Qualifications:
- Applicants of the Bachelor’s degree program should have graduated or expect to graduate from a high school or an associate degree program
- Applicants who obtained a bachelor’s degree are not eligible, but candidates with an associate degree can only apply to a bachelor’s program.
- Candidates who will graduate should first submit an expected graduation certificate at the time of application. If such candidates pass the first selection round, they should provide a graduation certificate by 31 December 2023.
- Japanese candidates graduating by 31 March 2024 can apply for this opportunity.
Grades:
Applicants’ CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) of the previous (degree) program must meet one of the two criteria below:
- Applicant’s score percentage must be 80% or higher on a 100-point scale or ranked within the top 20% within one’s class OR
- CGPA should be equal to or higher than 2.64/4.0, 2.91/4.5, 2.80/4.3, or 3.23/5.0
Age:
- Candidates should be under 25 and born after 1 March 1999.
- Applicants should not have grounds for disqualification (e.g., criminal history) for overseas travel
Health:
All candidates should be in good health, both mentally and physically

Who CANNOT Apply for Global Korea Scholarships?
The following applicants cannot apply for the 2024 undergraduate G.K.S. program:
- Applicants who have graduated or are going to graduate from a Korean high school or a Korean associate degree program are NOT eligible to apply
- Previous degree program scholarship holders from the Korean government are NOT eligible to apply
- Previous G.K.S. degree program candidates who have withdrawn from the program or disqualified after their selection as G.K.S. scholars in the three years
- Embassy track candidates who passed the first selection round, including backup applicants, cannot apply again through a university track.
- Embassy track candidates should choose between the General and Overseas Korean programs and apply to only one program.
- University track candidates should apply to only one program among U.I.C., Regional University, and Associate Degree programs.
- For applicants who apply to more than one track/program/university, their applications will be disregarded in the evaluation process, and the NIIED will cancel the scholarship if found afterward.
- All candidates should check additional restrictions or eligibility of each degree university.
Application and Selection Procedure of G.K.S.
Applicants should apply through one of the G.K.S. tracks (Embassy or University Track). Those candidates who chose the embassy track can apply through the Korean embassy in their home country. Alternatively, they can apply through their desired University. Please read the selection details for each of the application tracks below:
Embassy Trak:
- Submit your application to the Korean embassy in your home country
- The embassy will start the first-round selection
- The embassy recommends the applicants to NIIED
- Application documents of recommended candidates arrive at NIIED
- NIIED starts the second round of the selection
- NIIED starts the third round of the selection of the embassy track candidates
- NIIED announces the final decision of the 2024 G.K.S. undergraduate scholars
University Trak:
- Submit your application to your desired Korean University
- The University will start the first-round selection
- The University recommends the applicants to NIIED
- Application documents of recommended candidates arrive at NIIED
- NIIED starts the second round of the selection
- NIIED announces the final decision of the 2024 G.K.S. undergraduate scholars

- Application period: Each embassy and University have their specific application deadlines. Applicants should check with the respective institute before applying.
