Applications are open for Gender Equality Internship at UNESCO. The intern will carry out the following tasks under the general direction of the Director of the Division for Gender Equality, the Chief of Policies and Strategies for Gender Equality’s supervision, and as part of the general assignment to support the Division’s work:

  • Aid in the monitoring, reporting, and follow-up of initiatives related to gender equality as a worldwide priority in order to fulfill UNESCO’s four strategic objectives in line with 41 C/4 and 41 C/5;
  • Evaluate materials and initiatives pertaining to the advancement of women’s empowerment and gender equality throughout all UNESCO domains, and create reports, briefings, and notes on the subject;
  • Help create engaging content for the Division’s website, such as news articles, photo galleries, documents, and other dynamic content, and assist in creating efficient communication materials for the Division, including its social media outlets;
  • Aid in the planning of conferences, events, and outreach programs pertaining to priority gender equality;
  • Help maintain consistent communication and collaboration with partners and stakeholders, upon request;
  • Contribute to the planning and execution of training programs as well as the creation of the Division’s instruments and policies.
  • As allocated, assist with setting up and closing down the Executive Board and/or General Conference meetings.
  • Perform other duties as requested by DIR, CAB, or GE.

Learning Objectives:

  • The main learning goals of the internship are to gain professional experience in UNESCO’s implementation of Priority Gender Equality, which connects to and enhances the intern’s graduate-level coursework, and to increase knowledge and comprehension of UNESCO’s operations. At the start of the internship assignment, the intern and I will talk about the precise learning objectives.

  • Interns are not paid by UNESCO. Internship assignments come with no money or other compensation.\
  • During their internship, interns are entitled to 2.5 days of paid leave every month.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • You have to be at least twenty years old.
  • A graduate program is what you are presently enrolled in (Master’s degree, PhD, or equivalent, second university degree or above).
  • Twelve months before the internship began, you received your Master’s or PhD (or second degree as stated above) in recent years.
  • Please be aware that applicants who are not enrolled in graduate programs but who have finished their full-time bachelor’s degree are not eligible to apply.
  • Candidates for technical/professional or secretarial/assistant positions must be enrolled in specialized technical/professional institutions or secretarial schools, and they must be in their final year of study or have just graduated (within the last 12 months) from their respective institutions.
  • You should speak and write English or French with great proficiency. Working proficiency in the other language, either French or English, is advantageous and can even be necessary for assistantships and internships in secretarial duties at Headquarters.
  • You need to be well knowledgeable about office applications and computer systems.
  • It should be easy for you to operate in a team and adjust to a global workplace.
  • You ought to have excellent communication and people abilities.

  • They don’t get back to every applicant. The manager will get in touch with you immediately if you are chosen. It indicates that your application was not accepted if you hear back from them after six months.
