The Erasmus Mundus Scholarships applications are open to all international students in European Universities. Applicants can benefit from fully-funded scholarships to study at a European destination schools for 2024-25.

The Erasmus Mundus Scholarships for Master’s and Ph.D. degrees are available through the Erasmus+ and Joint Masters Scholarships programs. The funding body behind this program is the European Union (EU).

Erasmus+ Program:

Erasmus+ Program helps the recipients to study for a Master’s or Ph.D./Doctorate in any of the European universities and countries. Erasmus+ is the EU’s education, training, sport, and youth program, starting in 2021 and ending in 2027. This program offers a variety of opportunities for higher education students, staff, and institutions worldwide.

Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters Scholarships:

Apply for an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master as a Master’s degree candidate from all over the world. You will study at several universities in Europe and beyond through this joint program. Full scholarships are available for the best students, as mentioned above.

Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters are prestigious one (1) to two (2) academic years (60 to 120 ECTS) international master degree programs that a group of higher education institutions design and deliver jointly. They mainly include at least three universities from three countries and more associated academic and non-academic partners. Typically, students complete their Master’s degrees, including study periods, research, traineeship, thesis preparation, and defense in different institutions.

Type of Degree Awarded in Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters

As a Master’s degree graduate, you will gain one of the following Master’s degrees:

  • A Joint Degree, which is one single degree certificate issued on behalf of two higher education institutions, at least
  • Multiple Degrees are at least two-degree certificates issued by two universities.

Applicants must define these in detail when they sign a study agreement with the relevant Erasmus Mundus Joint Master at the beginning of their studies.

Erasmus Mundus Scholarships Funding Value

This Erasmus Mundus Scholarships covers the following costs:

  • Monthly stipend with value range of €1,400 for up to 24 months
  • Tuition fee waiver
  • Traveling allowance for students
  • Flight costs for international travel
  • Travel payment for students who move to another country during their studies.
  • A Work visa to all the recipients once they complete their Master’s or Ph.D. This option enables the students to live in their country of choice even after their studies.

Eligibility Criteria for Erasmus Mundus Scholarships

Applicants need to meet the following requirements before applying to Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters Scholarships:

  • Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree (equivalent level) or be in their last year of bachelor’s studies
  • Have graduated before the start of their Master’s program
  • Meet the English language proficiency by providing at least 5 in IELTS or equivalent international scores; candidates do not need to submit GRE or GMAT scores.
  • Also applicants Not need to contact any professor or else. Also, you can find the details on your relevant program websites and apply to the scholarship by following instructions given on the Program’s website when they open.
  • No work experience is required.
  • An applicant with at least 16 years of education can apply for it.
  • No age restrictions.
  • Meet any requirements set by the study program

Which Countries Can Apply for These Scholarships?

There are two (2) types of countries where Erasmus+ is active, as follows:

  1. Third countries associated with the Program and EU Member States: Individuals from Liechtenstein, North Macedonia, Iceland, Norway, Serbia, or Türkiye can join most opportunities as these non-European Union countries are associated with the Erasmus+ program.
  2. Third countries not associated with the Erasmus+ Program: The Erasmus Mundus Scholarship offers other opportunities for individuals from other non-European Union countries. The most obvious and comprehensive example includes Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degrees, youth exchange schemes, or the international dimension of staff and student exchange (if the applicant’s university participates).

Required Documents

Generally, applicants should prepare and submit the following required documents:

  • Application form
  • Two letters of recommendation vary with every program.
  • A certificate of residence acquired from the applicant’s home country, university, workplace, or local municipal office
  • Previous degrees and transcripts
  • A letter of motivation
  • Research proposal or study plan essay
  • Language proficiency document
  • Any document required by the study program

Grants for Institutions

Erasmus+ also offers grants to higher education institutions to run Erasmus Mundu Joint Master’s Programs. Any higher education institution (HEI) founded in an eligible country can apply for Erasmus+ fund to run Master’s programs.

The organizational applicant can apply on behalf of a partner with other HEIs. The proposal should deliver a fully developed and accredited joint study program, ready to run and advertise worldwide if selected.

The fund duration is for six academic years, covering a minimum of 4 editions of the Master’s program. EU provides up to €5 million in grants per project. EU scholarship for individuals is up to €1,400 per month for 24 months.

The Erasmus Mundus Catalogue is updated every year and lists the Master’s degree programs that the European Union currently supports.

Please note that most of these programs offer Erasmus Mundus scholarships; some do not if:

  • being at the end of their funding period
  • being temporarily allowed to use the Erasmus Mundus name after completing their funding period.

Please note that most consortia ask applicants to submit their applications for courses beginning in the following academic year between October and January.
