Opportunity Description

Canon Oceania offers cash prizes for photographers through the Canon Oceania Grants for 2024. During the past 18 years, Canon Oceania has provided over 110 schools, not-for-profits, and community organizations with over $550,000 in product and financial support, all in the spirit of our guiding concept, Kyosei, which is living and working together for the common good.

The Canon Oceania Grants Program is back this year to help four more deserving groups or individuals expand their influence. There’s even a new category this year that’s all about supporting the advancement of Australia’s First Nations peoples.

Grants and Categories

The 2024 Canon Oceania Grants categories and details are as follows:

Community Grant (AUD 5,000):

Any initiative or group that positively affects communities, cultural causes, or society at large is eligible to apply for the Community Grant. The winner of this category will get a Canon product valued at up to $2,500 in addition to a $2,500 cash award.

Education Grant (AUD 5,000):

Schools and other learning facilities for adults and children are eligible to enter this award category. The winner will get a Canon product valued at up to $2,500 in addition to $2,500.

Environment Grant (AUD 5,000):

Applications for the Environment Grant are welcome from nonprofits and groups that support sustainable practices or raise public awareness of environmental preservation. The winner will get a Canon product valued at up to $2,500 in addition to $2,500.

First Nations Grant Valued at $5,000:

The First Nations Grant, which is new for 2024, is available to any organization or initiative that will benefit the community or the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. The winner will get a Canon product valued at up to $2,500 in addition to $2,500 in cash.

Qualifications/Restrictions

The following categories are open to applicants for grants in one or more of them:

Educational Grant: accessible to both adults and children in schools and other educational facilities.
Community Grant: Open to organizations that support cultural and socioeconomic concerns that positively affect communities.
Environment Grant: Accepting non-profits and organizations committed to developing sustainable practices or increasing public awareness of environmental protection.
First Nations Grant: Open to any initiative or organization that will benefit the community and/or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.
Canon Oceania will consider applications from an eligible organization that can demonstrate that use the grant amount ($5,000) to facilitate a community, educational, or environmental project to benefit the Australian/New Zealand community.
Applicants should be interested in speaking with the media and providing quotes for media outreach if required.
They should not announce their win publicly through websites or social networks until guidance from Canon.
Candidates should specify if they’ve contacted the media about their project before applying. If so, include who, what, and when.
Applicants may apply for a Grant in one or where eligible for more of the above categories.
