Opportunity Description

Amnesty International is offering an 18-month, part-time Global Civic Space Fellowship to study decreased civic space and document grassroots resistance strategies from marginalized voices. This opportunity is designed for individuals passionate about human rights, activism, and advocacy.

Fellows will research civic space restrictions, analyze resistance movements, and collaborate with activists to develop a practical toolkit for defending civic space worldwide. The fellowship encourages innovative, experience-based approaches that contribute to Amnesty’s global advocacy efforts.

Fellows will produce research-based publications, convene activists for collective learning, and deliver a final in-depth think piece for Amnesty’s advocacy.

Eligibility Criteria

Who can apply for the Amnesty International Global Civic Space Fellow Program?

  • Applicants must be fluent in written and spoken English; knowledge of a relevant regional language is a plus.
  • Experience working on civic space resistance, either formally (e.g., academia, NGOs, journalism, law, policy) or through grassroots activism.
  • Strong writing and research skills with a background in human rights advocacy
  • No formal academic qualifications are required.
  • Must have the legal right to work from their preferred location.
  • Amnesty International welcomes applications from underrepresented groups, LGBTQI+ individuals, and persons with disabilities.
