Opportunity Description
The Erasmus+ MSc Scholarship Program provides a full scholarship to students who apply to the Erasmus+ GEM Master’s degree program: Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation for Environmental Modelling and Management and have an excellent academic record.
Erasmus+ offers 16 full scholarships per intake, but applicants may also apply for other types of scholarships and funding to enter the GEM program.

Benefits of the GEM Scholarship Program
Applicants can benefit from the following benefits:
- Full tuition fees coverage for both students from the program and partner countries
- Travel and Installation Costs
- Travel allocation of EUR 1000 per year to students accepted as scholarship holders.
- EUR 1000 payment just once (not yearly) when the student enrolls in the first HEI. This scholarship is a financial incentive to assist students with visa costs, housing, and other expenses. (Those who have resided <4000km away from the Netherlands)
- Travel allocation of EUR 2000 for students who reside >4000 Kilometers from the Netherlands.
- EUR 1000 one-time payment (not yearly) when the student enrolls in the first HEI. This amount is an incentive to assist students with visa charges, housing, and other expenses. (Those who reside 4000+ KM away from the Netherlands).
- Travel allocation of EUR 3000 per year (For those residing 4000+ km away from the Netherlands).
3. Living Costs
- EUR 1000 each month for a maximum period of 24 months. When a student studies in his or her own country, the stipend allowance is not paid.
- When a student studies in another partner nation for over three months, the monthly stipend is suspended until the student returns to the program country.
Eligibility Criteria
The followings are the requirements for the GEM Scholarship Program:
- The Erasmus+ GEM MSc Scholarship Program is open to excellent candidates applying to the ITC Master’s degree program GEM (Geo-information Science and Earth Observation for Environmental Modelling and Management.)
- Recipients must not have benefited from a previous EMJMD scholarship or an Erasmus Mundus Master or Joint Doctorate scholarship.
- The scholarship holders should commit not to benefit from another EU-funded scholarship for the same EMJMD course for the entire program period.
- In case of fraud or false declaration, recipients should repay the amount.
- Applicants should provide unconditional academic acceptance to the study program.
 Other Requirements for the GEM Scholarship
- Upper second class (2.1) BSc honors degree or equivalent from a recognized institution in a discipline linked to the program, preferably combined with relevant work experience.
- IELTS 6.5, TOEFL iBT 90, Cambridge Proficiency or Cambridge Advanced Grade C or above, Trinity ISE III in English.
- Relevant experience for the selected major of studies at the University of Twente.
- Having not previously received an Erasmus Mundus scholarship.
- Ineligible for study grants and loans under the Dutch system.
Required Documents
Applicants should submit the following application package required documents:
- Application form
- Employer’s statement
- Government’s statement
- Passport or Identification documentation
- A transcript of grades
- Letter(s) of recommendation
- An essay on a given topic.
- One optional motivation letter of a maximum of two pages
- CV of a maximum of four A4 pages
- Research proposal of a maximum of two A4 pages
- Official English test score
How to Apply for the GEM Scholarship?
Applications for the MSc in Geo-information Science and Earth Observation for Environmental Modelling and Management are entirely online, and applicants must submit the online application form with the supporting documents.
All applicants should note that before filling in the application form, choose the study track of choice on the Program Structure page. There are no application fees.
All information in the application package will be shared with the EACEA (European Education and Culture Executive Agency) and partner universities for selection purposes only.

- Track 3: GEM4 Ecosystems & Natural Resources
- Track 4: GEM4 Food Security
