Opportunity Description
EnerTracks Fellowship Program invites eight fellows to participate in a training program in the Agora Energiewende office in Berlin, Germany. The fellowship program will happen from 6 November to 15 December 2023.
Each fellow will start part-time working for their home organization while participating in training sessions that Agora Energiewende energy experts offer and facilitates. This multi-disciplinary training will cover many different topics, such as:
- Energy markets
- Power system flexibility
- Research methodologies
- Supplemental online and reading material,
- Group discussions as a complement to each of these sessions.
Agora Energiewende mentors support each fellow in tackling one specific transformation issue of their choice. The topic must be relevant to the perspective of the fellow’s organization for transferring the learnings into their domestic work.
To foster knowledge transfer and expertise internationally, Agora and the partners at the Renewables Academy (RENAC) offer the following training programs in addition to the EnerTracks Fellowship program:
- The EnerTracks Fellowship Program
- Study Tour Programs (No program for fall 2023)
- The EnerTracks Online Modules (Application is Closed)
Participants can apply and complete all these programs combinedly or individually. Applications for Fellowship and Study Tour programs open twice a year, approximately five months before the start of the program. At the same time, the application for Online Modules occurs through a separate Call for Applications via partners at RENAC. Applications for the Online Modules are only possible through the RENAC website during the respective Call for Applications.
The primary aim of the training is for energy transition policy experts employed by or affiliated with a think tank or other non-governmental organization working in the energy transition field.
Experts from academic bodies researching energy policy, civil society organizations, or another relevant field fall into the wider target group and are eligible to apply for this training.

Benefits of the EnerTracks Fellowship Program
During the 6-week EnerTracks Fellowship Program, participants will receive the following:
- Approximately 45 hours of tailored sessions that the Agora Energiewende teams will deliver and prepare.
- Inclusion in everyday activities of the Agora Berlin office
- Individual mentoring from Agora experts
- Article publishing opportunity on the Agora blog
- Excursion to the Agora office in Brussels
In addition to the above benefits, all EnerTracks fellows will receive the following:
- Maximum €450 travel allowance that covers half of the costs of participants’ international travel expenses; this amount does not include visa costs.
- All expenses paid for accommodation in Berlin.
- Public transport tickets in Berlin for the duration of the Fellowship
- A modest daily stipend
- Available office space in Berlin
- Health insurance
- Support letter for visa application processes
- A participation certificates
- Free access to the EnerTracks alum network.
What costs does the program not pay?
- Visa fees
- Travel costs to and from airports
- Other personal costs arising during the time in Berlin.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants who wish to apply for the EnerTracks Fellowship Program must meet the following requirements:
- Applicants should be nationals of an Official Development Aid (ODA recipient) country.
- In-person participants should provide documents that show vaccination protection against the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. Please consult the German Ambessaies in the applicant’s home country for more information about Covid-19 and quarantine regulations.
- Applicants should be working or affiliated with a think tank, civil society organization, or an academic body researching energy policy or another relevant field.
- Prove about five years of professional experience in the climate or energy sector at the time of application. Preference goes to applicants with leadership potential who stay at a “tipping point” stage in their professions.
- Should have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a well-known university in economics, engineering, environmental science, political science, or similar. Preference goes to master’s degree applicants.
- Have excellent communication skills in English.
- Must have a genuine interest in tackling climate change issues and the energy transformation in their home country and have a strong understanding of power systems, climate and energy policy, energy economics, and policy instruments or processes.
- Applicants must demonstrate a high level of intellectual curiosity and humility.
- Bachelor’s or master’s university students and job seekers cannot apply for this
- Applications from underrepresented individuals in energy policy are welcome.
- Individuals working in the private sector or international organizations who have a strong track record of climate change mitigation and energy policy engagement are also eligible to apply.
Application Procedure and Required Documents
Qualified applicants who have read the program information and eligibility criteria carefully should submit the following documents in a single PDF English document via the online application form.

- A letter of support from the applicant’s home institution grants permission to participate in the training; applications without this letter are un
- A motivation letter describing the applicant’s current responsibilities in their organization and how the training program (s) would support their work in their home country (the maximum word is 500 equals to around 4000 characters with spaces)
- Aside from the motivation letter, applicants should also submit information on the research topic or project the applicant would like to expand on with their Agora mentor. Additionally, they should explain how this topic relates directly to their work (max. 250 words). Applications without information on the research topic may not be acceptable.
Important Notes:
- To document the information on the specific research topic or project, applicants should use the following naming convention: firstname_lastname_AgoraTraining_Spring2023 (ex.: joan_smith_AgoraTraining_Spring2023)
- Before starting the application form, applicants must have all documents ready.
- Applicants cannot save an incomplete form and continue working on it at a later point in time, so complete the entire form in one session and submitted.
- After application submission, candidates will receive a confirmation email. Therefore, applicants should ensure the correct spelling of their email addresses and check their spam folders.
