Organization Description
The International Women’s Media Foundation (IWMF), based in Washington, D.C., works to improve the standing of women in the media around the world. The International Women’s Media Foundation (IWMF) has developed initiatives to assist women in the media in developing practical answers to the challenges they confront in their work and personal lives. The IWMF’s work includes international reporting fellowships in Africa and Latin America, grant opportunities for women journalists, research into the status of women in the media, and the Courage in Journalism, Anja Niedringhaus Courage in Photojournalism, and Lifetime Achievement Awards, among others. The IWMF promotes press freedom around the world and frequently organizes petitions requesting that international governments release imprisoned journalists and provide safety to journalists in danger.
