Opportunity Description
Are you a young peacebuilder at the start of your career? Are you deeply committed to women and peace and security and have worked in this domain in Afghanistan or the Democratic Republic of Congo? If so, you’re invited to apply for the 1325 Scholarship for the year 2024.
Since 2020, the FBA has been granting an annual scholarship in alignment with UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on women, peace, and security. This scholarship, established in memory of Zaida Catalán – a passionate advocate for gender equality and peacebuilding – aims to uphold her legacy and advance the agenda on women, peace, and security. The scholarship is established to promote individuals who are committed to issues regarding women’s participation in conflict resolution. It gives young agents of change in some of FBA’s partner countries the opportunity to, during the course of a year, deepen their knowledge and experience in relation to the women, peace and security agenda.
Between 2011 and 2016, Zaida Catalán served as a gender specialist for various international peace missions under the FBA. Tragically, in 2017, she lost her life during a UN mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Through the 1325 Scholarship, which was initiated by the Swedish Government and entrusted to the FBA, more young peace advocates are given the opportunity to immerse themselves in and address issues concerning women’s involvement in conflict resolution, in the spirit of Zaida Catalán.
What Does the Zaida Catalan Scholarship Offer?
Selected scholarship recipients will have the opportunity to enhance their understanding and contribute to peace and security efforts through placements within local civil society organizations. The FBA also provides capacity-building activities throughout the scholarship duration.
Scholarship recipients will receive a stipend to ensure a decent standard of living. Moreover, the FBA will cover certain expenses for the host organization to ensure that the scholarship recipients have a fulfilling and safe learning experience.
