The World Trade Organization (WTO) calls for its 2024 Young Trade Leaders Program applications. This initiative fosters a deeper understanding of the WTO’s work and international trade among young people globally.

This program aims to create a network of exceptional young leaders who can contribute fresh perspectives and ideas about the role of trade and the WTO while learning about the organization’s mission and operations.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must be:

  • Applicants should be between 18 and 30 years old on the closing date for applications.
  • They should be citizens of a WTO member country.
  • They are not currently affiliated with the WTO and without relatives presently affiliated with the WTO.
  • Able to demonstrate good written and spoken English (knowledge of French or Spanish is an asset).
  • Attuned to the need for diplomacy, respectful of diverse perspectives, and willing to foster understanding of trade issues and promote constructive dialogue.
  • Committed to participating fully throughout the one-year program (July 2024-June 2025).

Required Documents

Candidates should submit:

  • CV (no more than two pages)
  • 2-3 minute video introduction expressing their interest in the program and the impact they hope to achieve as a Young Trade Leader
  • A written contribution (maximum 300 words) answering the question: “What does trade mean for you?”

Selection Process

  • The WTO Secretariat will review all applications.
  • Short-listed applicants will receive an invitation to participate in an interview in July 2024.
  • Selected leaders will be invited to travel to Geneva in September to participate in the 2024 WTO Public Forum.
