The 2023 call for the Marie Skłodowska Curie Actions- MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships is open now for international researchers.

MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships offer a budget of € 260.47 million for the academic year 2023. These grants will improve the innovative and creative skills of Ph.D. researchers interested in gaining new skills through advanced training and interdisciplinary, inter-sectoral, and international mobility.

This year’s call is open to any scientific field applications, including Euratom research. MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships include:

  • European Postdoctoral Fellowships are open to researchers from any country to carry out a personalised project in the EU or countries associated with Horizon Europe.
  • Global Postdoctoral Fellowships: This fellowship is open to European citizens or long-term residents wishing to work with organizations in third countries before returning to Europe.

Researchers can apply together with a host organization. Their host organizations include research institutions, universities, businesses, small or medium-sized enterprises, or organizations based in a Horizon Europe-associated country or an EU Member State.

The fellowship also provides that researchers gain experience beyond academia by undertaking a placement in a non-academic European organization. Candidates can request this additional six-month opportunity at the end of their fellowship.

The following groups of researchers can apply for this fellowship:

  • Those wishing to reintegrate into Europe,
  • Who are displaced by conflict,
  • Researchers with high potential are seeking to restart their careers.

About MSCA:

The MSCA is the European Union’s flagship funding program for Ph.D. or doctoral education and postdoctoral training of researchers. MSCA is part of Horizon Europe with a primary objective to fund excellent research and innovation and equip researchers at all levels of their careers. MSCA provides the recipients with new skills and updated knowledge through mobility across borders—the program also exposures the researchers to different sectors and disciplines. The MSCA helps to build Europe’s research capacity and innovation by investing in the long-term professions of excellent researchers.

Who Can Apply for MSCA?

To apply for the MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship, legal entities must be eligible for funding as follows:

  • Any legal entity, regardless of establishment place, including legal entities from international organizations or non-associated third countries, is eligible to participate
  • Beneficiaries and affiliated entities should register in the Participant Register before applying. To get a PIC – Participant Identification Code and the Central Validation Service validity before signing the grant agreement, upload the necessary documents showing legal status and origin during the grant preparation stage.

Find the basic steps that an applicant should follow throughout the fellowship process:

  1. Find out which kind of Postdoctoral Fellowships is suitable for the proposed project: European Postdoctoral Fellowships or Global Postdoctoral Fellowships
  2. Check the requirements carefully to make sure eligibility. Check all required guidelines for each Funding and Tender Opportunities Portal call.

  • Do not submit a paper application, as paper submissions are NOT possible.
  • Incomplete applications are unacceptable and should contain all parts, mandatory Annexes, and supporting documents.
  • Please submit readable, accessible, and printable applications.
  • Applications should contain a plan for disseminating and exploiting results, including communication activities.
  • Follow page limits to parts of applications guided in the application templates linked above. If not provided, the limit for a complete application is 45 pages, and the limit for a first-stage application is ten pages.
