Each year, a number of first-year Masters students are given the opportunity to do Applied Research Projects (ARPs) on behalf of policy and practice partners through a bidding process hosted by the Geneva Graduate Institute. Through ARPs, small student groups collaborate to carry out policy-relevant research on topics pertaining to international relations and development with partner organizations.

Expectations:

Over the course of the ARP, students are expected to:

• Create a detailed project description,

• Perform thorough literature reviews,

• Prepare analytical preliminary and final reports, and present the results of the study.

Eligibility Criteria:

• Applications to host an ARP are requested from organizations that address global concerns. It is anticipated that partner organizations would advise and assist students in producing research with practical and policy significance.
• The process of becoming an ARP Partner Organization is competitive; selected applicants must show a dedication to helping students throughout the project duration by offering technical expertise, fostering professional development, and facilitating connections between students and other top professionals in the related field of practice.

ARP Partner Organizations are expected to:

• Give the research project an overall framework;
• Take part in about four meetings with students during the project’s duration;
• Offer comments on and validate the deliverables made by the students, such as the preliminary and final reports, the literature review and methodology, and the terms of reference; and
• Attend the project’s final presentation.
