Opportunity Description

The DAAD Helmut Schmidt Program (also known as Public Policy and Good Governance) assists future leaders from developing nations who wish to promote democracy and social justice in their native countries. The German Federal Foreign Office-funded program allows students to earn a Master’s degree in Master’s programs that are particularly relevant to their home countries’ social, political, and economic development. Following Good Governance principles, highly competent graduates with a first academic degree are schooled in political science, economics, law, and administration and prepared for future leadership positions in their home nations.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Graduates from developing countries are eligible to apply.
  • The DAC list includes the qualified countries.
  • You cannot apply if you have lived in a nation not on the DAC list for more than 15 months.
  • You cannot apply if you have lived in Germany for more than 15 months.
  • Candidates with a solid academic record in social and political sciences, law, economics, public policy, and administration are encouraged to apply.
  • Students who want to make a difference in their nations’ sociopolitical and economic well-being are encouraged to apply.
  • Students with appropriate job experience are encouraged to apply.

  • CV in reverse chronological order.
  • A single letter of motivation.
  • Higher education degree certificates.
  • Transcripts (complete set of the transcript of records)
  • Work experience certificate
  • Language Certificate (English or German)
  • Written reference (from current employer or university teacher)

How to apply for DAAD Helmut-Schmidt-Program Master’s Scholarships?

  • Send the application form and supporting documentation to the Master’s program university, not the DAAD.
  • Applicants must apply online via the official website in English or German.
  • Fill out the DAAD application form completely.
  • Clearly indicate the courses chosen by prioritizing the alternatives (you can apply for a maximum of two courses).
  • A single application for two courses is sufficient.

Important Notes:

  • Please keep in mind that your application may be refused on formal grounds if you submit difficult documents to understand.
  • Applications sent to more than two higher education institutions and/or do not include a clear priority in the DAAD form and letter of motivation will be eliminated from the selection process.
  • Only applications with all required documentation will be considered.
  • DAAD applications will not be transmitted to the corresponding higher education institution (s). Such application documents, including any attachments, samples, and so forth, will become the DAAD’s property without compensation. They are not going to be returned.
  • Exclusion from the selection process will result from any deviations from the application process.

  • The quality of the motivation letter.
  • Matching the motivational letter to the program goals.
  • Relevant practical experience
  • The decision of the Master’s course selection committee as well as the DAAD
  • The DAAD will contact selected candidates and require them to upload documentation to the DAAD portal.
