Eligibility Criteria

You should meet these requirements:

General Eligibility:

  • Applicants for Australia Awards Scholarships must excel academically and navigate the challenges of studying in Australia.
  • Applicants should be prepared to study in English, live in Australia, and adapt to a potentially different culture.
  • Maturity and resilience are valued qualities.
  • Researching Australian conditions and suitability beforehand is recommended to avoid exacerbating pre-existing conditions due to scholarship stress.

Specific Eligibility Criteria

  • Be at least 18 by February 1 of the scholarship year.
  • Be a citizen of a participating country and apply from their country of citizenship.
  • Applicants should not be Australian citizens or permanent residents, nor are they seeking permanent residency in Australia.
  • Not having a relationship with an Australian or New Zealand citizen or resident may affect eligibility.
  • Not be active military personnel.
  • They must not have received a long-term Australia Award in the previous four years.
  • Not have criminal convictions, including those related to Child Protection and PSEAH.
  • Meet any specific criteria set by their country’s government or the Program Area.
  • Satisfy the admission requirements of the institution offering the award.
  • Meet all Department of Home Affairs requirements for a Student Visa.
  • They are not applying for a scholarship for a lower academic level than already attained.
  • Disclose any connections to Program Area staff or managing contractors for transparent application management.

Scholarship Condition:

  • Applicants who wish to receive an Australia Awards Scholarship will sign a contract with the Commonwealth of Australia stating that they will abide by the scholarship’s terms.
  • Scholars must leave Australia for at least two years after completing their scholarship. If they fail to do so, it will result in the scholar incurring a debt for the entire amount of their scholarship.
