Opportunity Description

The Australia Awards Fellowships applications are open for the academic year 2024. These Fellowships promote ties between Australian organizations and regional partners to build networks of influence and leadership.

Fellowships are for senior and mid-career officials and professionals who can promote development results in priority areas and strengthen partner countries’ institutional capacity through leadership.

Australian organizations can apply for funding through Australia Awards Fellowships to host and support different professional development activities such as work attachments, supervised research, management or leadership courses, study tours, program meetings and visits, or a combination.

Australia Awards Fellowships are short-term opportunities from 2 weeks up to 52 weeks. A Fellowship’s flexibility is a key aspect. This program provides opportunities for in-country study, research, and professional development activities organized by Australian organizations; however, they do not lead to academic diplomas. A competitive selection method is applicable for application rounds.

Fellowship Awards

Australian organizations can apply for financing of up to AUD 34,500 per Fellow, with a maximum of 15 Fellows, to pay the following expenses of the hosted fellows:

  • Return air travel costs and relevant in-Australia travel expenses
  • Training costs
  • Living expenses and accommodation
  • Medical insurance expenses while in Australia
  • Special assistance for fellows with disability
  • Program overhead fee

Eligibilities for Australia Awards Fellowships

Australian organizations must ensure that all nominated Fellows meet the broad eligibility conditions listed below:

  • Applicants should be 18 years old at the time of starting the Fellowship
  • Not be a permanent residence holder or be applying for PR in Australia or partner of someone
  • Applicants should be a citizen of an eligible country
  • Must not hold a serving military personnel
  • Satisfy all requirements of the Department of Home Affairs student visas subclass 500 (for (DFAT sponsored)
  • Can participate in the Fellowship program
  • Able to travel without family members because DFAT does issue visas for family members
  • Applicants with a disability that needs assistance should travel with a carer

Cambodia, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, Timor-Leste and Vietnam

South Asia and the Middle East:

Bangladesh, Bhutan, Iraq, India, Jordan, Mongolia, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Palestinian and Sri Lanka

Pacific:

Federated States of Micronesia, Kiribati, Fiji, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Samoa, Tonga, Vanuatu, Tuvalu, Wallis, and Futuna

African countries:

Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana, Kenya, Egypt, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Morocco, Nigeria, Namibia, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Zambia

Europe:

Ukraine

Priority Areas

Fellowship programs must be per the six development focus areas listed below:

  • Climate change, resilience, adaptation, and the transition to green energy
  • Gender equality, social inclusion, and equity for people with disabilities
  • Wellness
  • Digital Economy, including cyber, technology, and media participation
  • The Maritime Industry and the Blue Economy
  • Infrastructure and network connectivity
