Applications are open for the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship for EMHRPP in Europe. The Erasmus Mundus Master’s Program in Human Rights Policy and Practice (EMHRPP) offers opportunities and courses for prospective students to follow their master’s degree in Sweden, Spain, England, and Norway. EMHRPP is a joint program of four partner universities:
- University of Gothenburg, Sweden
- Roehampton University, London, UK
- University of Deusto, Bilbao/San Sebastian, Spain
- Arctic University of Norway (UIT), Tromsø, Norway
EMHRPP supports third-country and EU/EEA students with the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship and partnering Universities’ scholarships. Students who applied to and received admission into the Human Rights Policy and Practice master’s program can benefit from full study costs coverage. Each year, the initiative awards approximately 15 scholarships.
EMHRPP brings legal, political, anthropological, sociological, and practical perspectives together. Students get support from the classroom to the labor market, equipping them for human rights work in civil society organizations, governments, the public sector, and business.
You must have at least two years of practitioner experience in human rights to apply.

Benefits of the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship for EMHRPP
EMHRPP supports third-country and EU/EEA students with the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship and partnering Universities’ scholarships. Students who applied to and received admission into the Human Rights Policy and Practice master’s program can benefit from full study costs coverage. Each year, the initiative awards approximately 15 scholarships. The scholarship covers the following items:
- Participation fees coverage
- A monthly living allowance of EUR 1,000 for 24-month
- Travel and installation expenses and any additional expenditures
- Health insurance coverage for 24 months

Eligibilities of Erasmus Mundus Scholarship for EMHRPP
Scholarship applicants should fulfill the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship and EMHRPP requirements.
Erasmus Mundus Scholarship Requirements:
- The scholarship applicants must have a higher education degree or equivalent level by the mid-January program acceptance deadline.
- Students who have already received an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degrees (EMJMD) scholarship, Erasmus Mundus Master/Doctoral Course scholarship holders, are ineligible for additional scholarships.
- Applicants from eligible nationals can apply for this scholarship program. Remember that a difference exists between students from program countries and partner countries. Students from program countries will receive no more than 25% of the total scholarships available.
- Scholarship holders who spend part of their Erasmus Mundus Masters Courses (EMMC) in their home country are not eligible for the monthly living cost during this time.
- The monthly living-cost allowance is not paid to scholarship holders from partner countries during EMMC periods lasting more than three months (the equivalent of 15 ECTS credits) in any partner nation.
- Students from partner countries who have lived in any program countries (EU + Turkey, Macedonia, Norway, Lichtenstein, and Iceland) for more than 12 months in the last five years will be considered program country applicants under the 12-month rule.
- Students in any academic year can apply for a maximum of three distinct Erasmus Mundus Joint Programs.
- Applicants should submit a full and timely application for this scholarship.
EMHRPP Admission Requirements:
To be eligible for the EMHRPP admission, you must meet the following requirements:
- A first degree from an internationally recognized university or college worth 180 credits or 180 ECTS
- Provide at least two years of human rights practitioner experience. Regular employment, volunteer work, and internships are all examples of practitioner experience.
- A minimum English language proficiency of English B or six at the upper secondary level; alternatively, applicants can provide the equivalent level of an international test, such as TOEFL, IELTS, or comparable alternatives equal to English B or English 6 mentioned in the call for applications by the University of Gothenburg each year.

All candidates of the EMHRPP should submit the following supporting documents:
- Degree certificates or Diplomas (BA, MA, or more.) and certified translations
- Official Transcript of Records with certified translations
- English test results (English 6 or B from Swedish upper secondary school or the equal level of an international test, like TOEFL or IELTS)
- Two recommendation letters from a relevant non-academic organization or former employer
- Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- Motivation letter (Template)
- Fill in the Scholarship Application Form
- Scan of a valid passport
- Proof of residence

Application Procedure for the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship for EMHRPP
Students willing to apply for the EMHRPP and receive the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship should submit the scholarship application form on the University Admissions website with their program application. If they don’t upload the scholarship application form, their application will be processed as a self-funding candidate.

Selection Criteria of EMHRPP
The University of Gothenburg manages application procedures and evaluations of entry requirement compliance (eligibility).
The admission procedure is the responsibility of the EMHRPP’s Joint Admission Committee, composed of the conveners and the administrative coordinator in Gothenburg, based on pre-determined criteria.
EMHRPP’s Joint Admission Committee selects the candidates based on the following parts with a total of 100 scores:
- Academic capability (up to 40 scores)
- Motivation letter (up to 20 scores)
- Recommendation letters and work experience (up to 40 points)
Applicants must additionally provide the following papers, which play a key role in the EMHRPP’s Joint Admission Committee’s rating process:
- Official English transcript of records
- Motivation letter in English following the template
- CV (Curriculum Vitae)
- Two letters of recommendation
