Opportunity Description

Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Degrees (EMJMD Scholarships) are available on Groundwater and Global Change (GroundwatCh) from 2024 to 2027. Each year, about 15 Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Degree scholarships are available competitively. The scholarships will be offered for four intakes over a four-year period (approximately 60 scholarships for intakes beginning in 2024-2027).

About the Groundwater and Global Change (GroundwatCh) Program:

The curriculum of the GroundWatCh program assists students in digging into various fields, including groundwater hydrology, climate sciences, and groundwater use, for addressing global climate change through adaption strategies.

This program is joint with IHE Delft, the Technical University of Dresden in Germany, and the University of Lisbon in Portugal.

Benefits of the EMJMD Scholarships for GroundwatCh

EMJMD Scholarships offer the following benefits for successful applicants of the Groundwater and Global Change (GroundwatCh):

  • Students’ participation costs, including tuition fees, library and laboratory charges, full insurance coverage, and any other obligatory costs associated with the student’s participation in the Master’s program
  • A monthly grant of EUR 1,400 for subsistence, student travel, and installation fees for the whole two-year term of the EMJMD study program
  • Students with disabilities may be eligible to contribute to individual needs up to a specified limit if they meet the basic eligibility requirements outlined in the grant agreement.

Notes:

  • In addition to the EMJMD scholarships, a limited number of scholarships with reduced tuition fees are available. These include a lower tuition price of EUR 3,630 (incl. VAT) rather than EUR 18,000.

Requirements of the EMJMD Scholarships for GroundwatCh

There are separate sets of requirements for admission to EMJMD Scholarships for GroundwatCh and Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Scholarships as follows:

Scholarship Requirements:

  • Scholarships are only available to private or natural persons (to whom Erasmus provides a tuition fee invoice), not to employers, governments, or other scholarship sponsors.
  • All other expenditures like insurance, visas, travel, and the cost of living and accommodation for the next 24 months are not part of the scholarship, and proof of funding for these fees is obligatory in the form of bank statements.

Admission Requirements:

  • Proof of successful completion of a first higher education degree in a B.Sc. (equivalent to 180 credit points under the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS)) is necessary.
  • Students should prove a high final grade or GPA of minimum B/B+ (US System) or at least 2nd upper (UK System)
  • A bachelor’s degree in one of the following subjects: civil or environmental engineering, geosciences, environmental sciences, limnology, oceanography, geography, geology, or natural resources
  • Adequate academic knowledge of mathematics and water-related subjects is essential.
  • Be from one of the countries mentioned in the EU List of Classified Countries and Regions
  • Proof of an internationally recognized English language tests:

IELTS (academic):

  • Overall: ≥6.0 (regular/joint MSc), ≥6.5 (research MSc)
  • Writing: ≥6.0 (normal/joint MSc), ≥6.5 (research MSc)

TOEIC:

  • Total overall: ≥960 (regular/joint MSc), ≥1220 (research MSc)
  • Writing: ≥150(regular/joint MSc), ≥175 (research MSc)

TOEFL:            

  • iBT Internet-based: ≥80 overall and ≥17 for writing (regular/joint MSc), ≥90 overall and ≥20 for writing (research MSc)
  • iBT Home Edition: ≥80 overall and ≥17 for writing (regular/joint MSc), ≥90 overall and ≥20 for writing (research MSc)

Cambridge:

  • CPE/C2 Proficiency: Grades A, B, and C (regular/joint MSc), Grades A, B and C (research MSc)
  • CAE/C1 Advanced: Grades A, B, and C (regular/joint MSc), Grades A and B or ≥176 (research MSc)

Note:
