International students are eligible to apply for the fully funded Central South University Scholarship for 2024–2025. These grants are available for PhD, master’s, and undergraduate studies. These grants will pay for monthly stipend, medical insurance expenses, on-campus housing, and tuition.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Excellent non-Chinese national, free of criminal history and in excellent health.
  • Candidates for a bachelor’s degree must be between the ages of 18 and 25 and hold a high school diploma or its equivalent; candidates for a master’s degree must hold a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent and be between the ages of 18 and 35; candidates for a doctoral degree must hold a master’s degree or its equivalent and be between the ages of 18 and 40. Candidates under the age of eighteen (18) must be at least sixteen (16) years old and have a legal guardian who resides in China.
  • A minimum score of 260 in HSK4 for science and engineering programs and 200 in HSK5 for arts, social science, and medical programs should be obtained by students applying to Chinese-taught programs.
  • For admission to programs taught in English, students must receive at least an IELTS score of 6 or a TOEFL score of 85.
  • The following individuals are excused from demonstrating their language proficiency:
    • Candidates for whom English or Chinese is the official language of the nation.
    • Candidates who completed a degree program where English or Chinese was the primary language of instruction.
    • Candidates for master’s and doctoral degrees must be highly qualified academically and possess the ability to conduct original research.
    • Prior to applying, candidates must meet certain requirements for admission to certain programs.

Documents Requirement:

  • A passport photocopy that has been available for more than a year.
  • The physical examination record in photocopy form.
  • A notarized certificate translated into Chinese or English, or a photocopy of the highest graduation certificate. The pre-graduation certificate from the institution is needed if the candidate is enrolled in classes at this time. Documents that are not in Chinese or English must have notarized translations in either language attached.
  • A notarized transcript translated into Chinese or English or a stamped transcript of the highest degree.
  • A clean record or a document with official stamps that is translated into Chinese or English. The date of issuance will fall after October 1, 2023.
  • A transcript from the HSK for programs taught in Chinese, an IELTS or TOEFL for programs taught in English, or other documentation attesting to your language proficiency.
  • Video self-introduction. Candidates must upload a one-minute self-introduction video, and HSK certificate holders must record the video in Chinese. The MP4 file type of the video must have a capacity of no more than 40MB. Those who are interested can modify the resolution ratio, bit rate, and other indexes to alter the file size with the aid of video format conversion software.
  • Declaration that no scholarships or other financial aid have been received. (Personal Statement)
  • Two distinct recommendation letters from associate professors or academics with extensive networks. The date of signature must come after October 1, 2023. (Only graduate candidates please)
  • A study plan with at least a thousand words. In the next study, please include more details about your research background, methodology, topic, significance, etc. (Only graduate candidates please)

Notes:

  • The aforementioned contents will be offered in either Chinese or English. Any other language should have its materials notarized in either Chinese or English.
  • An applicant for a bachelor’s degree as a foreign student who was born with a foreign nationality and whose parents are Chinese citizens residing abroad must possess a valid foreign passport or nationality certificate that has been held for more than four years. Additionally, within the last four years, up until April 30 of the admissions year, the applicant must have documentation of having lived abroad for more than two years (the actual residence for nine months in a year can be calculated as one year). The computation is predicated on the stamps of entry and exit. It is necessary to provide proof of the renunciation of Chinese nationality.
  • Regardless of the admissions outcome, the application materials will be used to enroll the majority of potential applicants, and neither the application price nor the materials themselves will be reimbursed. The admission notice received will determine the ultimate financial support.
  • International students studying in China are required by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China to obtain medical insurance. If an international student is admitted without funding for insurance, they will have to pay for their own insurance. Students without insurance cannot sign up.

  • Step 1: In order to access the online applications, click the “apply now” option below.
  • Step 2: Initial Evaluation and payment of application fees: An initial assessment of the applicant’s identification, language proficiency, physical and mental health, etc., will be conducted by the School of International Education. Following the first evaluation, applicants should use the CSU unified payment platform to pay the CNY 500 application fee as instructed in the email (WeChat, Alipay, and UnionPay are accepted); In order to proceed with the application, please pay the application fee within the next two weeks. You DO NOT NEED to pay the application fee if you are not accepted after the first review.
  • Step 3: Review of Academic Works: Appropriate academic institutions will evaluate candidates in-depth to assess their background in science, capacity for original research, and inventiveness.
