Organization Description

Verizon Communications Inc., colloquially known as Verizon, is an American multinational telecommunications conglomerate and a Dow Jones Industrial Average component. The company’s headquarters are located at 1095 Avenue of the Americas in Midtown Manhattan, New York, but it is incorporated in Delaware. The United States Department of Justice ordered AT&T Corporation in 1984 to divide the Bell System into seven companies, each a Regional Bell Operating Company (RBOC), colloquially known as “Baby Bells.” Bell Atlantic, one of the Baby Bells, was founded the same year. Its headquarters were in Philadelphia, and it became the parent company of New Jersey Bell, Bell of Pennsylvania, Diamond State Telephone, and C&P Telephone, with a trading area stretching from New Jersey to Virginia.
