Organization Description

The National Institute of Genetics (abbreviated as NIG) was established in 1949 in Japan. Motoo Kimura joined the institute the same year (1949) and eventually established the neutral theory of molecular evolution (published in 1968). NIG now houses the Japan DNA Data Bank, as well as the Department of Genetics, SOKENDAI (The Graduate University for Advanced Studies), and PhD programs in Genetics. Read more
