Opportunity Description

Yale University accepts applications for Yale Young Global Scholars (YYGS) annual summer academic enrichment program from national and international students. YYGS is for outstanding high school students from around the world. More than 2,000 students from 150 countries, including all 50 U.S. states, participate in this interdisciplinary two-week session at Yale campus in the U.S.

YYGS distributes more than 3,000,000 USD in financial need aid to both national and international students. High school students can benefit from this opportunity to participate in a STEM, humanities, social sciences, or cross-disciplinary track.

YYGS need-based financial aid is available for qualified applicants, who can submit their applications during either applicant pool period explained below.

Eligible students will benefit from the YYGS program as follows:

  • Meet like-minded peers from around the world
  • Exploring renowned libraries and museums, visiting Yale research labs, and virtual campus offerings by engaging with Yale professors
  • By completing the Capstone Project, students will develop their research and presentation skills
  • By attending YYGS, participants will benefit from classroom conversations with other fellows

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants who meet the following eligibility criteria can apply for YYGS:

  • Should be at least 16 years old by 16 July 2023
  • Be thoroughly familiar with academic English.
  • Currently, be a high school sophomore or junior, or international equivalent.
  • Be graduated in November/December 2023/2024 from the Southern Hemisphere or in May/June 2024/2025 from the Northern Hemisphere.
  • Should apply to YYGS for the first time. Applicants who have applied previously but have not receive an admission letter, could not attend, or did not meet the eligibility criteria can reapply for YYGS 2023.

Required Documents

Applicants who apply for YYGS should submit all the following documents along with the application:

  • List of activities
  • One essay with a maximum 400-word and one response with maximum 200-words
  • Official school transcript
  • One recommender must complete the YYGS Recommendation Form. The recommender must submit online YYGS Recommendation Forms ONLY.
  • The application fee for Early Action is $60, and the Regular Decision is $75
  • If available, submit an English fluency test score (TOEFL or DuoLingo). Applicants don’t need to take a new test to apply for YYGS.
  • Applicants who need financial aid should submit a need-based form of financial assistance.

There are two application pools for candidates applying to YYGS:

  1. Application pool 1 (Early Action) details are as follows:
  • Application Deadline: 2 November 2022 (11:59 pm ET)
  • Application Fee: 60 USD
  • Decision Release: 20 December 2022 (11:59 pm ET)
  • Deadline to accept or reject YYGS Offer/ Pay Tuition: 4 January 2023 (11:59 pm ET)
  1. Application pool 2 (Regular Decision) details are as follows:
  • Application Deadline: 10 January 2023 (11:59PM ET)
  • Application Fee: 75 USD
  • Decision Release: 10 March 2023 (11:59 pm ET)
  • Deadline to accept or reject YYGS Offer/ Pay Tuition: 15 March 2023 (11:59 pm ET).

Note: Applicants must note that the application fee is not refundable.

YYGS Webinars

YYGS hosts free, live webinars for applicants, school officials, and families. Each webinar is 30-60 minutes, and applicants can attend the webinar live or listen to the recording afterward. Applicants can download webinars listening for YYGS 2023 here.

How to Apply

To submit a successful application, please follow the below steps:

  1. Read the YYGS eligibility criteria.
  2. Read the YYGS application required documents.
  3. Read a PDF sample of a blank application and prepare your answers.
  4. Prepare contact information for a parent, guardian, school teacher, or official.
  5. Click Apply Now to start a YYGS application.
  6. Check the “Review” page for missing required documents
  7. After completing the application, click on the “Review” page and the click on “Submit Application” option at the bottom of the page.
  8. Pay the non-refundable application fee by going to Applicant Status Portal. Please pay the fee and check the result on the Application Status Portal to check the requested Fee Waiver result.
  9. Check your email inbox for a YYGS confirmation receipt for successful submission. Applicants usually receive the notification within 24-48 hours of application submission, but applicants still need to pay the application fee.
