Opportunity Description
The World Bank Group open its application in September for Young Professionals Program (WBG YPP) 2024. The WBG YPP is a golden opportunity for an exciting career at the World Bank, recruiting Young Professionals with several academic and professional backgrounds. The applicants’ experience should be relevant to the World Bank, International Finance Cooperation (IFC), and Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) objectives and scope of work. Also, candidates should be nationals of WBG member countries and countries of operations.
Applicants who demonstrate a passion for graduate education, international development, relevant professional experience, and the potential to grow into impactful leadership roles across institutions are welcome to apply.
WBG YPP is a consolidated and joint program of the World Bank and IFC that recruits on behalf of three institutions, including the World Bank, IFC, and MIGA. The program aims to develop future leaders to collaborate effectively across institutions on joint WBG solutions to development challenges.

WBG YPP Overview
The YPP is a two-year leadership development program that initiates a five-year following employment contract with the World Bank, IFC, or MIGA. Young Professionals begin the YPP in Washington, DC, engaging in intensive training, including on-the-job and classroom studies. The participants will start learning the fundamentals of leadership and development activities across institutions and how to identify opportunities for collective impact.

Eligibility Criteria
Young Professionals worldwide can apply, but a preference goes for natives of WBG member countries and operational countries. To be eligible for the YPP WBG, applicants should meet the following requirements:
- Have a master’s or doctoral degree
- Born on or after 01 October 1992
- Specialize in a field related to one of the YPP Business Areas
- Demonstrate relevant professional experience or ongoing doctoral studies
- Be fluent in the English language
- The World Bank Group’s recruitment policy aims to hire a staff of the greatest caliber across the globe, with a preference for nationals of WBG member countries or countries of operations.
To be competitive, applicants should also:
- Demonstrate a dedication to and enthusiasm for international development
- Have great academic qualifications
- Demonstrate excellent client involvement, communication, and team leadership abilities.
- Knowledge of current industry trends is required.
The following attributes are advantageous:
- Work experience in emerging or developing markets
- Full command of one of the official WBG languages: Arabic, Chinese, French, Portuguese, Russian, or Spanish.

- Academic Credentials (Diploma, Degree Completion Letter, Proof of Enrollment with Expected Graduation Date, or Transcript)
- One short essay that answers these questions with 500 or less words for each prompt:

- Why would the applicant like to join the WBG YPP, and what makes them a great candidate for the program? Candidates should also indicate their preference for participating in the program at the World Bank, IFC, or MIGA and why.
- Overlapping crises, such as climate change impacts, disease outbreaks, conflicts, and financial problems, tied with fiscal and resource limitations, pose a complex challenge to many countries. How would the applicants advise the WBG to support countries in addressing that challenge, amongst others? Please outline the response with examples based on technical expertise and experience.
- One short thesis or dissertation summary (World Bank candidates, only if applicable)
- Three (3) professional or academic recommendations

Interview and Selection Criteria
YPP interviews will be in a hybrid format (virtual and in-person) and may include the following components:
- Pre-recorded interview (on Hirevue)
- Live panel interview
- An assessment center where you will participate in individual and Group exercises
- Timed computer-based financial tests (IFC candidates)
Applicants who receive an invitation to interview will get more details as the process progresses.
The selection committee will assess the candidates based on their experience, technical expertise, and competencies like client orientation, leadership, and communication.
