Benefits of the Vrije University Fellowship Program

  • The VUFP scholarship is available for a one-year or two-year Master’s program. If 100% of the ECTS from the first year is obtained, the scholarship will be extended for the second year of a two-year Master’s program.

Eligibilities for the Vrije University Fellowship Program

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

  • You hold a non-EU/ EEA passport, and you are not eligible for the lower tuition fee
  • You are not a citizen of the Netherlands
  • You can demonstrate your academic proficiency (GPA equivalent to a Dutch 8)
  • Starting in September 2025, you are conditionally or unconditionally admitted to the first year of a full-time English-taught Master’s program at Vrije University Amsterdam. Please note that students starting in February are not eligible to apply, and students enrolled in a joint program for which VU Amsterdam does not oversee the admissions procedure do not qualify for VUFP.
  • You must not have earned the degree you seek admission in the Netherlands.
  • You are not required to complete a preparatory program before beginning your Master’s program.
  • Students already enrolled in a two-year Master’s program and were not awarded the VUFP scholarship in 2024/2025 are ineligible to apply for the VUFP scholarship in 2025/2026.
  • One of their core values is diversity. As a result, they hope that many students from underrepresented countries (those with fewer than ten students enrolled) will apply for the VUFP.

How to apply for the Vrije University Fellowship Program?

Step 1: Register for a Master’s Programme (from 1 October 2024)
Register for a Master’s program via Studielink and your dashboard on vu.nl. It would be best to be conditionally admitted to the program before applying for the VUFP scholarship.
The suggested deadline for the program application is 1 December 2024.

Step 2: Submit VUFP Application (from 1 November 2024)
Submit your VUFP application form via your VU dashboard.
Deadline: 1 February 2025 (23:59 CET)

  • You can only apply for VUFP for one Master’s program.
  • Complete the application form, attach the GPA proof/program transcript, and complete the grading scale. Save the form as a single PDF and upload it to the Scholarship section of your dashboard.
  • Double-check your application before submitting it, as you can only submit it once.

Step 3: Decision
The Central VUFP Committee will review applications and award scholarships based on academic performance and motivation.

Step 4: Results
Results will be communicated via email by mid-March 2025.

Step 5: Accept or Decline Offer
Accept/decline the offer in your VU dashboard by the end of March 2025. Offers will be withdrawn if no action is taken within two weeks.
Note: Not all VUFP recipients will receive the NL Scholarship.
