Opportunity Description

Are you a young European-Mediterranean researcher? Are you interested in learning more about Euro-Mediterranean relations and the role of youth as cohesion drivers? Apply today to participate in the Euromed Young Researchers Forum 2022. The Euromed Young Researchers Forum is an initiative of the EuroMeSCo: Connecting the Dots project, co-funded by the European Union and the European Institute of the Mediterranean. The Euromed Young Researchers Lab aims to develop the research capacities of young specialists across the Mediterranean, increase the exposure and acknowledgment of their work, strengthen interactions, and stimulate research on subjects of mutual interest.

This year’s Forum will bring together 24 participants from the Mediterranean and neighboring countries in Mollina, Spain, to share ideas with policymakers, practitioners, and other young professionals on significant challenges in the Euro-Mediterranean region and contribute to policy formation in the area.

The theme of this year’s Forum will be Bridging the Gap in Euro-Mediterranean Relations: Youth as Drivers of Cohesion.

Costs Coverage & Benefits:

  • The IEMed will pay for round-trip airfare, hotel accommodations, and food.
  • Participants will be accommodated in double or triple rooms at the venue during the Forum and will cover visa fees.
  • Participants will present research projects on how young people saw the war in Ukraine on both sides of the Mediterranean, as well as the war’s responses; examine myths, the individuals and platforms participating in misinformation efforts, and the existing policy frameworks and mechanisms in place to combat disinformation and its potential consequences, among other things.
  • Benefit from capacity-building workshops to better their research and communication abilities
  • Gain access to remunerated publishing opportunities: authors of selected Concept Notes will be compensated to turn their proposals into Policy Briefs

Eligibility Criteria:

Candidates must:

  • Be researchers or students between the ages of 18 and 35 with at least a bachelor’s degree.
  • Be affiliated with a research center, university, or organization in one of the 42 UTM countries (priority will be given to researchers affiliated with EuroMesco member organizations)
  • Demonstrate interest in the Forum’s themes
  • Have an academic and/or professional background relevant to the Forum’s theme.

Application Requirements:

  • CV of no more than 2 pages
  • Short research proposal (of up to 350 words) that should be related to the Forum themes.

Submit your CV with the subject line of “Application for Euromed Young Researchers Forum 2022” to the email address below and fill in the online application form by including the research proposal.

Online Application Form

The selection process will be completed by July 4, 2022. All applicants will be notified by email of the results of their application.

After Selection:

  • Selected participants will be asked to prepare a 1-2 page Concept Note on their research topic chosen ahead of the Forum.
  • Following the Forum, at least 6 authors will be chosen to develop and translate their Concept Notes into a 3,000-word EuroMeSCo Policy Brief. Authors who are selected to write Policy Briefs will be compensated.
