Opportunity Description

The application for the University of Otago Master’s Research Scholarship in New Zealand is open. The merit-based program supports international students studying at the University of Otago. The applicants must be obtaining their first Master’s qualification, be international students, and undertake a thesis-based Master’s.

This Scholarship supports only the thesis component of a master’s research degree for up to one year of full-time enrolment. This partial opportunity covers the tuition fees of the students and is only available to students obtaining their first research-based master’s qualification.

Benefits of the Scholarship

The scholarship winner will receive NZ$18,204 per year and a tuition fee waiver for one year at the domestic rate for the degree. These tuition fees do not include student services fees and insurance.

Eligibility Criteria

Requirements for the University of Otago Master’s Research Scholarship are as follows:

  • Applicants should obtain their first research-based Master’s qualification
  • Be an international student
  • Should be undertaking a thesis-based Master’s
  • Provide a high academic record and achievements from a previous degree (A or A+ level)
  • Applicants should have high research potential
  • The recommendation of the relevant head of the department is a plus for the selection of the applicant
  • The scholarship application will be confirmed once the application for a Master’s program is approved and the enrollment procedure is completed.
  • For admission, applicants should meet all University requirements.

How to Apply for the University of Otago Master’s Research Scholarship?

Applications for this program are possible through the eVision portal. Qualified applicants can start the application process after applying for admission to a program.

Candidates can access the scholarship application form via a portal alert at one of the following times:

  • When applying for admission for a thesis-only degree, or if the thesis will start straight away, applicants will receive an alert in their eVision portal after applying for admission to their program; this alert invites the applicant to apply for a scholarship, or
  • The application form will be available just before the thesis component is started (usually at the start of the second year for a master’s degree by papers and thesis). Applicants will receive an alert in their eVision portal after enrolling in their thesis paper.
