Opportunity Description

The UNESCO Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP) has announced the Digital Pedagogy Make-A-Thon competition. This freestyle course design competition is open to all teachers, students, researchers, and education enthusiasts to apply as a team of 1-4 people and design courses for one of three themes, including Social Emotional Learning + X, Education for Sustainable Development, and Developing Research Mindset.

This Digital Pedagogy Make-A-Thon competition has two levels. Level one is to submit the designed course draft, and level two is for selected submissions from level 1 and will qualify for level 2. The main objective of the competition is to help improve human flourishing through education.

Each winning team will travel to New Dehli to present their courses. They will present their courses during the 10th-anniversary celebration of UNESCO MGIEP between 5 December – 7 December 2022.

  • Travel Costs: UNESCO MGIEP will sponsor the winning teams’ travel costs to New Dehli. If foreign participants can’t attend the celebration ceremony physically due to visa issues, they can make online presentations. 
  • Awards: Winning teams will receive certificates, UNESCO MGIEP T-Shirts, and a gift package. Additionally, their courses will be hosted on FramerSpace’s public courses list.

Eligibility Requirements

The selection committee will evaluate the three best courses on one of the specific themes against the following factors:

  • Learning objectives quality
  • Technology usage for learning
  • Opportunities for active learning
  • Open educational resources usage
  • Evidence-based selection of pedagogy
  • Quality of formative assessment
  • Quality of resources

Competition Themes 

The participant teams can design their courses on one of the following themes/topics:

  • Social Emotional Learning+ X: Enhance the Social and Emotional Competencies (SEC) of Empathy, Mindfulness, Compassion, and Critical Inquiry (EMC2) of teachers is the main focus of the UNESCO MGIEP. So, the teams can design their online self-paced courses for teachers in either primary, middle, or high school such that they can learn pedagogical approaches, practices, and processes to implement in their classes.
  • Education for Sustainable Development (ESD): Participant teams can design online courses for participants between 13 and 18 years old. The course should enhance the cognitive, socio-emotional, and behavioral dimensions of learning. It should enable the participants to take individual and collective action to change society and care for the planet. These courses should employ engaging, immersive, and interactive digital pedagogies.
  • Developing Research Mindset: The research mindset combines a growth mindset, an ethical mindset, and a curious mindset. So, the teams can design their courses for the target participants or learners between 11 to 25 years old. The primary purpose of such courses is to develop, encourage and cultivate Research Mindset among the participants or learners, regardless of their fields and educational backgrounds.
