Opportunity Description
The University of California, Berkeley Food and Farming Journalism Fellowship 2022 is now accepting applications. The UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism grants 10 postgraduate Food and Farming Journalism Fellowships. The fellowship, which is aimed at early and mid-career journalists, provides an opportunity to cover a wide range of topics related to food systems, including agricultural and nutritional policy, the food industry, food science, technology, and culture, rural and urban farming, agriculture and the environment, food and climate changes, global trade and supply chains, food system consolidation and securitization, and public health.

Deadline:Â March 15, 2022
Fellowship Structure:
- In June and November, fellows will gather in Berkeley.
- Fellows will improve their story pitches with the support of the editors during the first session and build a reporting and publishing or broadcast strategy.
- Between June and November, reporting, writing, and producing will occur.
- In November, the Second workshop week, fellows go over completed drafts.
Benefits of Food and Farming Journalism Fellowship:
- Successful applicants will receive a $10,000 grant.
- The fellowship will pay the costs of travel and housing for in-person training.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Journalists from the print and audio media are welcome to apply.
- Journalists from other countries can apply, but UC Berkeley cannot help with visas or residency.
- They will make priorities stories focused on the United States, but they will also evaluate overseas topics that have a strong U.S. angle or connection.
Requirements:
- Project pitch with a clearly defined story idea (PDF, 500 words)
- CV (PDF, max size: 16 MBs)
- Up to 3 published/broadcasted story clips (URL or Files) (Max file size: 16 MBs)
- Contact information of 2 references who will submit the recommendation letters
- 2 Letters of recommendation (must be submitted by the references)
