Opportunity Description
The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) and S.N Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences in Kolkata, India, have offered fellowship opportunities for postgraduate candidates. Applicants from developing countries interested in pursuing research toward a Ph.D. in physical sciences can apply for this opportunity. This program has been in the field of physical sciences for four years, with the possibility of a one-year extension. Therefore, qualified candidates are highly encouraged to apply.

Benefits
Fellows will benefit from the program as follows:
- Monthly stipend to cover living costs, including food.
- Free accommodation is available for the fellow.
Note: Monthly Stipend does not cover health insurance; therefore, a small amount is deductible to partial medical costs at governmental health institutions
Eligibility Criteria
Candidates for these fellowships must:
- Be under 35 years old by December 31 of the application year.
- Hold citizenship from a developing country (excluding India) without holding a temporary or permanent residency visa for India or any developed country.
- Must have a Master’s degree in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, or Mathematics, with at least five years of combined undergraduate and postgraduate studies from a recognized institution.
- Be accepted by a department at the S. N. Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences. Applicants should visit the Centre’s website to find a potential supervisor and contact them.
- Direct requests for acceptance to the Dean (Academic Programme) at [email protected] with the “SNB FORM” and a copy of their CV to request an Acceptance Letter.
- Demonstrate English proficiency if their education was not in English.
- Assure returning to their home country after the fellowship.
- Not engage in other work during the fellowship period.
- Be responsible for any accompanying family members financially.
Application

- Submit an Acceptance Letter from S.N. Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences with the application or by the deadline.
- Without preliminary acceptance, the application won’t be considered.
- Apply for the TWAS-SN Bose Postgraduate Fellowship Programme only via an online portal.
- Only one application within the TWAS and OWSD portfolio is allowed per calendar year.
- The institution head inviting external scholars under TWAS Visiting Professor programs can apply for another program.
