Fellowship overview

The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) and the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) of the Ministry of Science and Technology in India have developed a postgraduate fellowship program for scholars from developing countries who wish to conduct research toward a Ph.D. degree in Biotechnology in India. Interested and eligible candidates can apply for this great opportunity.

Benefits

Eligibilities:

To be eligible, applicants must fulfill the following requirements:

  • By 31 December 2022, the maximum age of the candidate must be 35 years.
  • Must be a national of a developing country (except India).
  • Applicants must not hold any visa for any temporary or permanent residency of India or any developed nation.
  • Must have obtained a Masters degree in science or engineering.
  • For Sandwich fellowships be enrolled for Ph.D. degree in their home country and be able to provide proof.
  • Full-time fellowship: must be eager to enroll at an Indian university.
  • Must hold an acceptance letter from the host institution in biotechnology.
  • Must be proficient in the English language if his/her previous education was not in English.
  • Provide a commitment letter of returning back to his/her home country after completion of the fellowship.
  • Must not undertake other assignments during this fellowship.
  • Be responsible for his/her accompanying family member’s expenses.

Required application documents:

  • Letter of acceptance from the host institute.
  • Online application form.
  • Reference letters must be written on letterhead and SIGNED by the referee. The name DBT/PG/ and the candidate’s surname must appear in the subject line. Please keep in mind that only signed reference letters will be accepted.
  • Applicants for SANDWICH Fellowships should ensure that the Vice-Chancellor or Registrar of the university delivers a signed copy of the “Registration and No Objection Certificate” on institutional headed paper to TWAS (only if already registered for a PhD in the HOME country).
