The applications are now open for TWAS – Atta – Ur – Rahman 2025 award, which is sponsored by the Searle Company Ltd. Nationals of a developing country who has been living/working in a Scientifically and Technologically Lagging country for at least two years before nomination. Eligibility Criteria

  • The award is open for young chemists and is younger than 40 years of old at the time of application;
  • Being a citizen of a developing country;
  • The applicant should have been working and living for at least two years in a Scientifically and technologically lagging country;
  • All Chemistry’s field are eligible;
  • Nominations from the jury members or from themselves will not be taken into consideration.
  • TWAS fellows are not qualified.
  • In a given year, a nominee is not permitted to submit more than one “Fellows of TWAS Awards” nomination. The nominators themselves will ultimately decide whether or not to move the nomination, however the secretariat reserves the right to alert the pertinent nominators that the nomination might be appropriate for another prize.

Who Can Nominate a Scientist?

Please note that self-nominations and nominations by a jury member is not accepted. Nominations by TWAS members, science academies, national research councils, universities, and scientific institutions are only accepted.

Selection Process

  • After the final date of nominations, TWAS will manage a pre-screening session;
  • The qualified candidate’s filed will be sent to jury members to evaluate them;
  • Based on the evaluation of jury members, Prof. Atta-Ur-Rahman will select the winner.

Before You Apply:

Only when a nomination contains all of the following data or supporting materials is it deemed complete:

  • Contact information for the nominator;
  • Nominee contact information (self-nominations and jury member nominations will not be accepted);
  • General nominee information, including the nation in which the nominee has resided and worked for the previous two years;
  • Permission from the nominee, or candidate, to use their personal information for the nomination procedure in accordance with Article 13 of Italian Legislative Decree 196/2003. Only the online platform may be used to submit this authorization. You can download the privacy authorization form under the “nominee’s personal data” section. The candidate must complete and sign the form before uploading it to the online platform;
  • Recommended citation (15–20 words emphasizing the nominee’s accomplishments in Chemistry science);
  • A statement providing support for the nominee’s work in Chemistry. The candidate’s work should be thoroughly explained in the supporting statements, along with its importance within the pertinent scientific framework. The nominee’s work’s scientific impact should be mentioned explicitly. Insufficient justifications will not be taken into account and will have a detrimental impact on the assessment;
  • A thorough and comprehensive report of any time the nominee has spent overseas during the last two years;
  • PhD: details on the field, year, and university that awards the degree;
  • A succinct description of academy and society membership;
  • A synopsis of the honors and awards obtained;
  • 10 most important articles enumerated in a format that is widely accepted;
  • The nominee must also upload their full list of publications and a brief resume separately to the internet portal.

In particular:

  • Keep in mind the specifications for each field when you fill out the form (e.g. maximum amount of characters, file type, date format, etc.)
  • Use the form menu button to run a check to make sure all required fields have been filled in and the data you submitted are valid. Your form is saved as well.
    You are directed to the “Submit” area of the form, which is the final section, each time you run a check. To access the earlier sections, use the form’s menu.
  • Fields that contain NOT ACCEPTED or MISSING DATA will be shown in red once you conduct a check.
  • Please be aware that the red highlight will remain in place until you do another check after you have appropriately changed the content of one or more fields.

How to nominate a scientist?

  • Nominate a chemist online with consideration of the points as mentioned above before the closing date:
  • Late applications will not be considered;
  • If you nominate a person for the first time, start the process by clicking on the “New Nomination” button;
  • If you wish to resume working on a saved nomination, then click on the “Resume” button;
  • Early nominations are crucial to be considered; Therefore, do not wait until the final minutes;
