Opportunity Description
Applications are open for the TÜBİTAK-TWAS Postgraduate Fellowship Program 2024 in Turkey. This fellowship program is for postdoc candidates with Ph. D.s from developing countries in the South.
The TÜBTAK (Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey) and The World Academy of Science (TWAS) have established the TÜBİTAK-TWAS Postdoctoral Fellowship Program for foreign researchers from developing nations who want to work in the departments and labs of the Turkish public and private universities as well as TÜBTAK Research Centers and Institutes to conduct PhD-level research in a field of the natural sciences and related applied sciences.
Objectives of the fellowship program:
By providing financial support to foreign researchers from developing countries who have received their PhDs or are currently enrolled in a doctoral program abroad in the natural and related applied sciences, the program, which was created in collaboration with BDEBTÜBTAK and TWAS-UNESCO, aims to advance international cooperation of Turkey in science and technology. The processes and requirements for applicants and any young foreign researchers funded by the program are covered in this call notice.

Benefits of the TÜBİTAK-TWAS Postgraduate Fellowship Program
The following assistance is available to the young researchers as part of the program:
- TWAS will provide travel support from the researchers’ home/living country to Turkey and vice versa
- Visa related expenses
- Monthly allowance covering accommodation, living costs, and private health insurance premiums in Turkey
- Fellows’ study fees waiver by the host institutes, including tuition, registration, and research costs

Requirements for the TÜBİTAK-TWAS Postgraduate Fellowship Program
Applicants should meet the following criteria:
- Applicants must have citizenship or be permanent residents of a developing nation in the South (List of Countries)
- Women and candidates from STLCs (Science and Technology Lagging Countries) are encouraged to apply
- Must not hold any visa for temporary or permanent residency in Turkey or any developed country;
- Work in a developing country other than the host country and conduct research there. Applicants must provide a Supporting Statement from the applicant’s current employer in the TÜBTAK format (see sample, which is accessible below or via TÜBTAK’s online application page).
- Provide a Ph.D. in natural and associated applied sciences in one of the abovementioned subjects.
- Be at least 45 years old on the 31 December of the application year
- Provide an official Acceptance Letter from a qualified department, institution, or laboratory of a Turkish public or private university or TÜBTAK Research Centers and Institutes. (Template)
- Candidates holding a Ph.D. from a Turkish institution must obtain an admission letter from a university other than the one where they got their doctorate, and they must conduct their research with an academic adviser(s) other than their doctoral thesis advisor.
- Submit the Research Proposal Form prepared in the format specified by TÜBTAK (see the sample below).
- Provide proof of English competence if English was not the medium of instruction, such as a standardized test score (TOEFL or IELTS) or a university-issued letter proving language knowledge. If English was your medium of instruction, please make a brief statement and sign it to describe what type of education you received in English, such as high school, BSc, or MSc degrees;
- Not accept any other assignments during the fellowship time
- Maintain financial responsibility for any accompanying family members
- You must not have previously received or been awarded a fellowship under this program
- After completing the fellowship, fellows must return to their home countries

How to Apply for the TÜBİTAK-TWAS Postgraduate Fellowship Program?
- ALL Fellowship applications must be filed online solely through the TÜBTAK online application system, accessible via the Apply Now link below.
- To be able to submit the online application form to TÜBTAK, candidates must first build a profile on the TÜBTAK Researcher Information System (ARBS) platform, which is reachable via the Register Now tab below.
- Before applying online via TYBS, researchers and academic advisers in Turkey must have their information in the Researcher Information System (ARBIS) up to date.
- TÜBTAK and TWAS will only accept applications via the online application form.
- No applications will be accepted after the deadline, so please submit your electronic application as soon as possible.
