Opportunity Description

The McGraw Fellowship for Business Journalism by MacGraw Center for Business Journalism is open now. Applicants for this position may be of any nationality. The Harold W. MacGraw Center for commercial Journalism provides editorial support and grants up to $15,000 to seasoned journalists who wish to publish in-depth investigative and enterprise stories that tackle significant commercial, financial, or economic challenges on a variety of subjects. Applying is not restricted to those who cover business; a number of their previous Fellows were generalists with expertise in fields like education, health care, or the environment. Others have focused on subjects like economic injustice or corporate responsibility.

Both staff and freelance journalists are welcome to submit in text, audio, and short-form video; they especially value contributions that blend formats to create a multimedia package. They look for initiatives that address important local or regional issues, as well as those that highlight issues or groups that are underrepresented or tell compelling national or international tales. It is strongly advised that journalists from diverse backgrounds and people of color apply.

Benefit

Successful applicants will have the chance to earn the following benefits:

  • A stipend Up to USD 15,000 for travel and research expenses;
  • The amount can be used as living expenses for freelance Journalists;
  • For those countries in which the travel costs are high, exceptionally an extra amount is considered to cover the applicant’s travel costs;
  • In addition to the financial aids, the center will provide editorial guidance as well for the fellow;
  • The center will work closely with the fellow to develop their ideas and stories;

Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible to the criteria of this opportunity is: 

  • To have at least five years of experience;
  • Nationals of all countries can apply to this opportunity; 
  • Students who currently study Journalism are not eligible for this opportunity;
  • If you are employed, demonstrate it in your application;
  • The fellowship covers full-time work on the planned project. 

Budget:

Creating a budget is not necessary before applying. Finalist candidates will be requested to submit an estimated budget at that time.
