Each year, the Ministry of Education, Science, Research, and Sport of the Slovakia Republic Government offers 70 scholarships for students from ODA countries to study for their bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD in the Slovak Republic.

The specific number of scholarships and fields of study are distinctly specified for each eligible country. Four (4) scholarships ( for bachelor’s and master’s degrees) are allocated for Afghanistan. (You may check the list here to know the number of scholarships allocated to your country.)  Students interested in studying in Slovakia can apply from March 24, 2025, to May 25, 2025.

Note: for Afghanistan, only four (4) scholarships are dedicated to bachelor’s and master’s degrees.

Medium of instruction: Slovak

If you do not know the Slovak language, don’t worry. After you apply for the scholarship, you will take part in the Slovak language preparatory course, which lasts for 10 months, and then you can use it at the university.

Slovakia Scholarship benefits

For bachelor and master:

• Monthly scholarship of 700Euros
• Study commencement stipend of 100 Euros
• Study completion stipend of 200 Euros
• Monthly stipend for public university 80 Euros

For Ph.D.:

• Monthly scholarship of 1100 Euros
• Study commencement stipend of 100 Euros
• Study completion stipend of 200 Euros
• Monthly stipend for public university 240 Euros

For language preparation:

• Monthly scholarship of 700Euros
• Study commencement stipend of 100 Euros
• Monthly stipend for public university 80 Euros

Note: If living standards in Slovakia significantly change, the monthly scholarship may be adjusted accordingly.

Fees in Slovakia:

• Dormitory accommodation: 110-240 Euro/month
• Meals 510 – 600 Euro monthly
• Medical examination: 142/177 Euro
• Interview related to entrance application procedure: 40-95 Euro
• Completion of degree work: 33 Euro approximately
• Dissertation: 50 Euro approx.
• Translation and authentication of diploma: 33 Euro

Incentive stipend:

Students with excellent academic performance will receive a bonus for a GPA of 1.3: 50 Euro/per month
PhD students passed the exam by the deadline: 170 euros/year.

Who is eligible to apply?

Applicants should fulfill the requirements below in order to apply for Slovakia Government Scholarships:

• Be from one of the eligible country
• Be between the age of 18 – 26 years for a bachelor’s and master’s degree, and be between the age of 23 – 35 for the Ph.D. degree by the first of September.

• After you log in, fill out the application form and attach the required documents

Required documents:

• Highest degree diploma
• High school completion certificate for those who apply for bachelor’s and transcript for those who apply for master and doctoral degree
• An acceptance letter can be added by August 31 (Only from those who speak Slovak)
• Birth certificate in English, Slovak, French, Czech or Spanish
• Recent photograph sized 3.5×4.5cm- full face with no glasses and a minimum resolution of 300 x 400 px
• Two recommendation letters from high school or university teacher
• Signed CV and Signed Motivation letter
• Publications
• Passport
• Signed application (print the pdf-filled application form, which you can find in your account, sign the last part of the form and attach it is scanned form
