Opportunity Description

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is accepting applications for the position of Risk Specialist in Kabul, Afghanistan. The Risk Specialist is in charge of aiding the Head of the Integrated Risk Management Unit in implementing the risk management regime by providing risk analysis and assistance.

The functions and duties covered in these terms of reference will be reviewed and changed collaboratively by the incumbent and supervisors as needed throughout the assignment.

  • A master’s degree or equivalent in Risk Management, Business, Accounting, Statistics, Law, or a similarly quantitative discipline is required.
  • In place of the Master’s degree, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted.
  • Professional experience in risk management, audit, finance, law enforcement/defense, or other regulatory agencies must be at least five years (Master’s Degree) or seven years (Bachelor’s Degree).
  • Prior investigation/intelligence, audit, and fraud examination expertise and knowledge are preferred.
  • Understanding international risk management standards (ISO31000, The Committee of Sponsoring Organizations of the Treadway Commission (COSO), Enterprise Risk Management, or other applicable standards) is desirable.
  • It is preferable to have demonstrated expertise and qualifications in designing, implementing, and assessing training programs and projects.
  • Prior experience working in conflict/post-conflict zones.
  • Previous UNDP experience and knowledge of its rules and processes, particularly in the relevant job area, is advantageous.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, communication, and persuasive skills.
  • Proven track record of establishing and maintaining productive collaborations with various parties.
  • It is necessary to be able to provide high-quality service delivery.
  • Oral and written English proficiency
  • Proficiency in the duty station’s native languages, Dari and Pashto, is beneficial.
