Opportunity Description

Applications for the Overseas MSc and PhD scholarships to specific programs at selected institutions are being accepted under the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) Overseas Scholarship Scheme for the 2024–2025 academic year from suitably qualified candidates. The PTDF is a Federal Government agency tasked with developing indigenous human capacity and petroleum technology to meet the needs of the oil and gas industry.

The program was created to give applicants the chance to take advantage of a wide range of expertise and resources provided by top universities worldwide.  Candidates are encouraged to apply via PTDF for particular programs offered by partner universities.

  • A Second Class Lower (2.2) with relevant industry experience, or a minimum of a Second Class Upper (2.1) qualification in their first degree
  • Needed to have fulfilled the required National Youth Service (NYSC)
  • Computer literacy is required.
  • Five O-level credits, two of which are in mathematics and English language.
  • A statement of purpose (no more than 500 words) outlining the purpose(s) of the proposed study, its industry relevance, and its anticipated effects on national development.
  • Prior to applying for the scholarship, candidates must have a National Identity Number (NIN) and must have had it verified (there are NIMC verification fees).

Ph.D.:

  • Needed to have fulfilled the required National Youth Service (NYSC)
  • Computer literacy is required.
  • Five O-level credits, two of which are in mathematics and English language.
  • A strong post-graduate degree and a minimum of Second Class Lower (2.2) in their first degree
  • A five-page research proposal that is pertinent to the oil and gas sector should include the following elements: topic, introduction, goal, methodology, and data collection method.
  • A letter from their vice chancellors verifying that they are not receiving any other scholarships is required of all lecturers.
  • Prior to applying for the scholarship, candidates must have a National Identity Number (NIN) and must have had it verified (there are NIMC verification fees).

Documents Requirement:

It is recommended that applicants scan and attach the following documents to their online application forms:

  • Certificate of First Degree or Statement of Results
  • The PINs on the application forms and the NYSC discharge certificate, WAEC/GCE/SSCE/NECO results, will allow PTDF to view the O-level results on the appropriate website.
  • Recent Passport Photo Master’s Degree Certificate (PhD Applicants Only)
  • Local Government Identity Letter
  • Proof of affiliation with professional associations

Please Keep in Mind:

  • The scholarship is valid for the 2024–2025 school year.
  • Only PTDF-approved courses at PTDF partner institutions are eligible for the scholarship.
  • Scholarships will only be given for studies that are pertinent to the mission of PTDF; applicants who apply for programs unrelated to the oil and gas sector may not be accepted.
  • Additionally, the suggested course of study needs to be connected to earlier research.
  • Applicants who submit more than one application will be eliminated.
  • Applicants are not permitted to reapply in the same scholarship category (MSc/PhD) if they have already received funding from the Fund.
