Opportunity Description

Applications for the Orange Social Venture Prize 2022 in Africa and the Middle East are now open. The OSVP is a strategy for accelerating start-ups that have a beneficial impact. An unquestionable force for progress, technological innovation can only realize its full potential if supported by a solid, successful economic proposal that addresses current and future social and environmental demands. In addition to supporting innovation, Orange celebrates the positive entrepreneurial spirit of dynamic start-ups through its Social Venture Prize. Since 2011, this International Grand Prix competition has welcomed start-ups from 17 African and Middle Eastern countries. It recognizes, awards, and supports business proposals that have a beneficial social and environmental impact.

The International Women’s Prize was established in 2020 to support sustainable, responsible, and inclusive development by promoting business projects led by women entrepreneurs or with the primary goal of improving women’s lives.

Eligible Countries:

Botswana, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cote D’lvoire, CAR, DRC, Egypt, Guinea Conakry, Jordan, Liberia, Madagascar, Mali, Morocco, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Tunisia

Prizes:

Awards International Grand Prix

  • The first prize is €25,000.
  • The Second prize is €15,000
  • Third place: €10,000
  • The OSVP International Grand Prix finalists and the International Women’s Prize winner will also get 6 to 9 months of company development assistance.

International Women’s Prize

  • Winner: €20,000
Eligibility Criteria:

Candidates must:

  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Present a NICT-based social entrepreneurship project (New Information and Communication Technologies)
  • Candidates must submit a project involving at least one of the 17 participating countries.

Ideally, the company concept would include a prototype or demo.

Competition Phase:

The 1st round will take place between June & September. Following that, the international phase will commence. Each application will be evaluated according to the regulations of the national competitions, with up to three winners chosen in each country. An Orange employee evaluation group will pre-select 10 finalists from the national winners. These finalists will be examined in October by a grand jury of key figures from the African tech community, who will select the three overall winners of the International Grand Prix. This panel will also decide the winner of the International Women’s Prize from among 5 finalists chosen by an evaluation committee comprised of Orange’s diversity and inclusion teams.

To make your application easier, gather your supporting information (such as your logo or presentation) ahead of time and write three supporting statements:

  • Specify the issue you want to address (max. 200 characters)
  • Explain your recommended solution (max. 200 characters)
  • Put together a pitch presentation (max. 1,500 characters)
