Citizens of specified developing nations with appropriate professional expertise and a history of supporting their governments’ development efforts are eligible for the Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP). Scholarships are available at the University of Birmingham for people interested in applying to the MSc Conflict, Security, and Development curriculum.

Scholarship Benefits
The following advantages are available to chosen applicants for the Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship:
- At the beginning of your study program and shortly after the scholarship’s conclusion, economy-class air travel from your home country to the host university is included. Scholars will also get two round-trip airline tickets and a $600 US travel reimbursement for each trip.
- Your graduate program’s tuition and the price of your university-provided basic health insurance.
- During the scholarship period, a monthly subsistence grant to cover all living costs is provided in school (accommodations, food, etc., including books). Depending on the host nation, the allowance varies in size.
Eligibility for Scholarship
Application requirements for the Joint Japan/World Bank Scholarship (JJ/WBGSP) include the following:
- Be a citizen of a developing country on this list that is a member of the World Bank.
- Not possess dual citizenship in any advanced nation.
- Possess good health.
- Possess a bachelor’s degree (or its equivalent) acquired at least three years before the application deadline.
- Have a Bachelor’s (or equivalent) degree and at least three years of recent job experience in development.
- Be paid, full-time employment doing development-related work when you submit your scholarship application.
- Possess a Bachelor’s degree (or an equivalent university) that you earned no more than three years ago and obtained no more than six years before the application deadline.
- Before submitting your application, you must attach the letter of admission.

Selection Process and Criteria
Following are the selection process and criteria details for the Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program:

- Two recommendation letters,
- Evidence demonstrating the applicant’s eligibility in the years of most recent development-related activity.
- The applicant’s Bachelor’s degree transcript and, if relevant, the applicant’s most recent graduate degree transcript. (Never upload or use a transcript as a replacement for a diploma.
- Unconditional admission letter to the JJ/WBGSP participating master’s program for the forthcoming academic year, excluding financial considerations.
