Opportunity Description

Newsrooms have responded to the increased frequency of concerns about climate change by including more coverage of environmental change and its effects. Sadly, a lot of editors and reporters lack the expertise, resources, and self-assurance necessary to cover these stories with the complexity and nuance they demand. In order to close this gap and serve as a useful tool for journalists covering a range of beats, the Metcalf Institute hosts the Annual Science Immersion Workshop for Journalists (AWJ).

This immersive program is celebrating its 26th anniversary, and this year, water and climate change issues will receive particular attention. Through a social justice lens, fellows will delve deeply into topics like ecosystem restoration, plastics and public health, and water quality.

For full-time journalists working in any media who are interested in learning more about studies and subjects pertaining to climate change science, impacts, adaptation, and justice, the Metcalf Institute offers the AWJ program. With practical exercises, field visits, and chances to form bonds with fellow fellows and scientific experts, it’s intended to strengthen your comprehension of the procedures, customs, and culture of science! With the increasing urgency that climate change is having on all of these fields—including the arts and culture, business, technology, policy, and politics—They welcome journalists from all beats.
