Benefits and Financial Aids

Eligibility Criteria
The eligibility criteria for the 2025/27 Merit Scholarships are as follows:
- Applicants must be enrolled at Universität Hamburg for at least two semesters (Master’s and doctoral students can apply after one semester)
- Applicants must not hold German citizenship
- They must not be eligible for the federal student loan scheme (BAföG)
- Demonstrate good to excellent academic performance
- Have active involvement in social and intercultural activities
Required Documents
All applicants must prepare these documents in advance and submit their applications:
- Application Form
- Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- Letter of motivation (use specified PDF form)
- Proof of social or intercultural activities (if applicable)
- Record of achievements (transcript of records or degree certificate with grades)
- Evaluations from 2 full-time teaching staff members with doctorates at Universität Hamburg
- Proof of residence permit (or identity card and registration certificate for EU citizens)
Selection Process
A committee of faculty members and ASTA (student council) will award the Merit scholarships. Applicants will be emailed about 8–11 weeks after the application deadline. Check the online portal for status updates.
