The Knight-Bagehot Fellowship offers experienced journalists a unique opportunity to deepen their understanding of business, economics, finance, and technology. Over two semesters, fellows take classes at Columbia Journalism School and Columbia Business School, participate in off-the-record seminars, and engage with top industry leaders.

This fellowship, known for its depth and rigor, accepts up to 10 fellows annually and provides them with invaluable tools for excelling in business journalism.

Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Application is open to full-time editorial employees of newspapers, magazines, wire services, digital media, TV, and radio news organizations, as well as freelance journalists worldwide.
  • Requires at least 4 years of experience in business, economics, or finance journalism.
  • Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) from an accredited university.
  • Candidates from around the globe are encouraged to apply, though many fellows come from the U.S.
  • Employers should provide a supporting letter, though formal approval is not mandatory for application or admission.
  • Fellows must not work or freelance during the fellowship year and must relocate to New York City.
  • Fellows are encouraged to return to their employers after completing the program.
  • The applicant must be fluent in English. (Score on the TOEFL 114 or an IELTS of 8.0)
