The ISC3 Innovation Challenge in Sustainable Chemistry and Waste 2022 accepts applications. The International Sustainable Chemistry Collaborative Center (ISC3) annual Innovation Challenge focuses on a specific topic that follows a respective focus topic. Waste management in relation to renewable energy supply (e.g., recycling/recyclability of batteries, wind power plant blades, PV materials) is a special focus topic for ISC3 2022. The ISC3 Innovation Challenge wants to engage, award, and promote sustainable chemistry innovators and their original solutions based on the belief that chemical sector transformation is critical to achieving most UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Eligibility Criteria:
  • All innovators and entrepreneurs, i.e., individuals owning or representing the proposed innovation, who work for organizations such as research institutes, startups, small-medium-sized enterprises, or comparable institutions engaged in developing and implementing sustainable chemistry solutions, are eligible.
  • Enterprises taking part in the challenge must have a staff headcount of no more than 50 (full-time equivalent) and an annual turnover of no more than 10 million euros.
  • Enterprises majority-owned by large corporations are ineligible for the award, except for innovations that result in the formation of independent spin-offs.
  • Proposals submitted by innovators and entrepreneurs from developing countries and addressing issues in developing countries are significant.
  • Female entrepreneurs are especially encouraged to submit a proposal.
Selection Criteria:

The proposals will be evaluated based on three main criteria:

  • Level of innovation: Is the innovation one-of-a-kind, distinct, and truly original?
  • Business viability: What is the innovation’s market potential? Is the concept commercially viable?
  • Sustainability: What is the innovation’s long-term impact?
How to submit proposals for ISC3 Innovation Challenge?

The proposal submission process will be divided into two stages. The first stage submissions include an online template that requests a brief description of the innovation, business perspectives, and the innovators’ team. Eligible proposals will be invited to the second stage, which will require more detailed information.
