Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be non-Chinese citizens
  • Be friendly to China, with no criminal record
  • Be in good physical and mental health
  • Have strong academic performance and good conduct
  • Show an interest in Chinese language education and related fields
  • Be aged 16-35 as of September 1, 2025 (in-service teachers up to 45, Bachelor’s applicants generally under 25)

Categories and Qualifications

The following are the scholarship categories for 2025:

  1. Master’s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (MTCSOL)
    • Duration: 2 years
    • Requirements: Bachelor’s degree, HSK Level 5 (min. 210), HSKK Intermediate (min. 60)
  2. Bachelor’s Degree in TCSOL (BTCSOL)
    • Duration: 4 years
    • Requirements: High school diploma, HSK Level 4 (min. 210), HSKK Intermediate (min. 60)
  3. One-Year Study
    • Duration: 11 months
    • HSK Level 3-4 requirements vary based on study area
    • Previous recipients of similar scholarships are ineligible
  4. One-Semester Study
    • Duration: 5 months
    • HSK Level 3 (min.180) and HSKK required
  5. Four-Week Study
    • Duration: 4 weeks
    • Requires HSK score, available for groups of 10-15 applicants

Required for All Applicants:

  • Scanned copy of passport photo page
  • HSK and HSKK score reports (valid for two years)
  • Reference letter from the recommending institution

Additional for Degree Scholarship Applicants:

  • Highest diploma certificate (or proof of expected graduation) and official transcript
  • MTCSOL applicants: Two reference letters from professors/associate professors; priority for those with a teaching contract or proof of intent

For Current Chinese Language Teachers:

  • Proof of employment and reference letter from the employer

For Applicants Under 18:

  • Certified guardianship documents signed by a legal guardian in China

Online registration opens on February 20, 2025, via the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship website and the Lanzhou University International Student Online Application Platform. Follow these steps:
